Fairs and Festivals 2013

The most valuable memory of this country is its people! If you go through the Colombian Fairs and Festivals calendar you will be able to prove this.  Here is a brief overview of the 6 most important Fairs and Festivals that we also highly recommend.

JANUARY 2013: Carnaval de Blancos y Negros

DATE: 02nd – 07th of january

PLACE: Pasto (Southcolombia)

SPECIAL FEATURE: Black makeup, white tallow and the happiness of the inhabitants of Pasto. The Carnival was declared a UNESCO World Heritage.

JANUARY 2013: Feria de Manizales

DATE: 06th – 13th of january

PLACE: Manizales (Coffeeregion)

SPECIAL FEATURE: Bullfighting in the coffee triangle, the festival has Spanish roots. Part of the program is also traditionally the coffee beauty pageant.

FEBRUARY 2013: Carnaval de Barranquilla

DATE: 09th – 12th of february

PLACE: Barranquilla (Caribic Coast)

SPECIAL FEATURE: Certainly one of the most spectacular carnivals in South America. Represents with its parades the mestizo population and the fusion of cultures and races. It  has been declared a UNESCO heritage. Amazing musical mix of rhythms like Cumbias, Porros, Fandango, Mapalés.

APRIL 2013: Festival de la leyenda Vallenata

DATE: 26th. – 30th of april

PLACE: Valledupar (north - east Colombia)

SPECIAL FEATURE: Vallenato is, as well as the Cumbia, the prevalent music style along the Atlantic Coast of Colombia. It is traditionally played by an ensemble of accordion, drum and güira. Everybody who wants to enjoy the world's best Vallenato music must visit Valledupar by end of april.

AUGUST 2013: Feria de las Flores Medellín

DATE: 03rd – 12th of august

ORT: Medellín

SPECIAL FEATURE: Horse parades, orchids - and bird exhibitions as well as the special parade of the Silleteros (men and women from the village of Santa Elena), who carry at the Flower Festival original and beautiful flower arrangements on their shoulders.

DATE: 25th – 30th of december

PLACE: Cali

SPECIAL FEATURE: The main attraction is the salsa music: Both, orchestras and dance groups are invited to perform. This is where the world's best salsa dancers show up!

Volksfeste und Festivals 2013

Das wertvollste dieses Landes sind seine Menschen! Das lässt sich eindeutig nachvollziehen wenn man Kolumbiens prall gefüllten Jahreskalender für Volksfeste und Festivals durchgeht. Hier ein kurzer Überblick, der 6 wichtigsten:

JANUAR 2013: Carnaval de Blancos y Negros

DATUM: 02. – 07. Januar

ORT: Pasto (Südkolumbien)

BESONDERHEIT: Schwarze Schminke, weisser Talg und die fröhlichkeit der Einwohner Pastos. Der Karneval wurde von der UNESCO zum geistigen Weltkulturerbe erklärt!

JANUAR 2013: Feria de Manizales

DATUM: 06. – 13. Januar

ORT: Manizales (Kaffeezone)

BESONDERHEIT: Stierkampf im Kaffeedreieck, das Volksfest hat spanische Wurzeln. Auf dem Programm steht traditionell auch die Wahl der Kaffeekönigin.

FERBUAR 2013: Carnaval de Barranquilla

DATUM: 09. – 12. Februar

ORT: Barranquilla (Karibikküste)

BESONDERHEIT: Bestimmt einer der spektakulärsten Karnevals Südamerikas. Stellt mit seinen Festumzügen das Mestizentum und die Verschmelzung der Kulturen und Rassen dar. Wurde von der UNESCO zum mündlichen und geistigen Kulturerbe der Menschheit erklärt. Extrem bunte Mischung musikalischer Rythmen wie Cumbias, Porros, Fandangos, Mapalés.

APRIL 2013: Festival de la leyenda Vallenata

DATUM: 26. – 30. April

ORT: Valledupar (Nord-Ost Kolumbien)

BESONDERHEIT: Vallenato ist, wie auch die Cumbia, eine an der Atlantikküste Kolumbiens vorherrschende Musikform, die traditionell  von einem Ensemble aus Akkordeon, Trommel und Güira gespielt wird. Wer in den genuss der weltweit besten Vallenatomusik kommen will, muss Valledupar Ende April besuchen.

AUGUST 2013: Feria de las Flores Medellín

DATUM: 03. – 12. August

ORT: Medellín

BESONDERHEIT: Reiterumzüge, Orchideen – und Vogelausstellungen und natürlich: Umzug der Silleteros (Frauen und Männer aus dem Gemeindebezirk von Santa Elena), die im Alltag die Früchte ihrer Landarbeit auf ihren Schultern tragen. Zu Zeiten des Blumenfestes tragen sie originelle und schöne Blumenarrangements auf ihren Schultern.

BESONDERHEIT: Hauptattraktion ist die Salsa Musik, sowohl in der Darbietung von eingeladenen Orchestern, als auch Tanzwettbewerbe. Hier treten die weltbesten Salsatänzer auf.
