In the last two weeks we made two impressive
inspection trips in Colombia in order to discover new destinations and tourism
projects. On our first trip we visited the Emerald mines of Chivor/Boyaca
(taking a car in Bogotá you need approx. 4 hours to get there) and were able to
find out what is typical about „community based tourism“-projects. During the
2-Day / 1-night program we learned about the topic from different perspectives.
We have been talking to a miner, a trader and a polisher of the emeralds. Interesting was that during the trip different local families were involved in
the execution of the program. From our point of view this is a great example of
a community based and a more sustainable tourism, because a lot more people
benefit from the income that is generated through this concept of
tourism.
Something similar we
experienced on our inspection trip to the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta where we
visited the indigenous communities of Nabusimake, next to Valledupar/Cesar. If you have any further
questions and special requests regarding the mentioned destinations don´t
hesitate to contact us.
