Last week
we visited some charitable foundations, social and environmental projects in
Bogota and surroundings. Our goal is to support some of those projects at long term
to get more involved with the local community. The spectrum of the projects we
visited ranges from the work with very vulnerable parts of the Colombian
society to projects of biodiversity and the protection of wildlife. Furthermore
we want to give our clients from all over the world the possibility to visit
and experience these charitable foundations. These tours can easily be included
or added to a City tour in Bogota and for sure will be very interesting
encounters.
In the
following newsletter we want to present every project we support. Let´s start
with an interesting project about biodiversity:
Colombia is
one the countries with the highest biodiversity-rates in the world. The aid
project from the German "Zoological Society for the Conservation of
Species and Populations" that collaborates with Karin Osbahr from the
University of Applied and Environmental Sciences (U.D.C.A.) in Bogota tries to
prevent the extinction of the Pacarana animal. It is one of the rarest and
least known rodent species of South America. The distribution of this last
living survivor of the family Dinomyidae is restricted to the Andean region
from Bolivia to Venezuela between 1800 and 3200 m. The species is considered as
endangered due to the destruction of tropical cloud forest and highland páramo.
Visiting the project we got very great insights about the importance of
biodiversity and the protection of species and the wildlife conservation.
