This year for Christmas we made a few donations to some social projects and nonprofit foundations. We are actively supporting those five Project's:

·                „Fundacion Bosconia“ – Education for homeless children 

·                „Niños de los Andes“ – Is helping homeless children to reintegrate in their families and society

·                „Proyecto Friese“ – The Project runs an organic garden in the Old City in Bogotá. It employs mentally handicapped people and represents a place of peace for the community.

Airline News

Air Canada announced new service to Colombia, through the offering of a Toronto – Cartagena nonstop flight, every Monday. Operating on a seasonal basis from 18th of December 2017  to 09th of April 2018, the airline will operate Airbus A319 aircraft once a week.

Since 28th of March 2017 KLM offers a regular new flight to Bogotá and Cartagena as a triangular flight with the Boeing Dreamliner four times a week. The flight departs in Amsterdam, lands in Bogotá and Cartagena and than returns to Amsterdam.

Latam will have a new direct flight between Medellin and Lima. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The new route starts 26th of February 2018.

Airline-Neuigkeiten

Hier noch ein paar Neuigkeiten zu neuen Flugverbindung nach Kolumbien und Lateinamerika.

Air Canada wird ab dem 18.12.2017 bis zum 09.04.2018 einen hochsaisonbedingten Direktflug zwischen Toronto und Cartagena haben, immer montags.

KLM bedient seit dem 25.03.2017 immer vier mal pro Woche die Verbindung zwischen Amsterdam und Kolumbien. Amsterdam – Bogota – Cartagena – Amsterdam. Die Verbindung ist sehr interessant weil ja die meisten unserer gemeinsamen Kunden ihre letzten Tage ihrer Reise in Cartagena ausklingen lassen und somit direkt nach Europa fliegen können.

Ab dem 26. Februar 2018 wird es immer montags, mittwochs und freitags einen Flug von Latam zwischen Medellin und Lima geben.

Wiedereröffnung des Archäologischen Parks von Tierradentro

Starke Regenfälle haben vor wenigen Wochen im „Archäologischen Park von Tierradentro“ Schäden an den Zugangswegen hinterlassen (wir hatten davon im letzten Newsletter berichtet). Der Park ist seit wenigen Tagen wieder problemlos zugänglich und wir können euch ab sofort wieder die komplette touristische Operation garantieren in einem der wichtigsten archäologischen Ausgrabungsorte Kolumbiens.

Reopening of the Archeological park of Tierradentro

Due to damages on the paths and on tombs caused by strong rainfalls, the “Archeological Park of Tierradentro” was closed the last weeks (we mentioned that in our last newsletter). The reopening took place a few days ago and we are able to provide a normal touristic operation in one of the most important archeological sites of Colombia.

Neptuno´s Tourcert-sustainability -certification

After publishing that we had started the certification process with the internationally renowned sustainability seal ‘TourCert’ in March 2017, we can finally announce that we have passed the external examination!

In accordance with the national criteria stipulated by Colombian law, we now comply with the rules and guidelines of international sustainability standards, which are indispensable for the enforcement of sustainable tourism. We started our journey towards becoming a sustainable business in 2014 when we initially started implementing first measures towards environmentally friendly policies.

‘TourCert’ is mainly focused on reviewing feedback from our partners with whom we work with on a daily basis. An area of major importance was the distribution of standardized, partly anonymous online questionnaires in order to get feedback not only from Neptuno co-workers, but also from our guides, transport partners, partner agencies and providers all over Colombia. The results of the questionnaires have been carefully examined leading to a variety of internal discussions and resolutions.

We are convinced that tourism enterprises which commit themselves to national and international sustainability standards will have numerous advantages operating successfully in the future. At this time we would like to invite fellow tourism enterprises to join us in becoming officially certified in sustainability and then to promote these ideals in their own companies. Tourcert-Zertifizierung von Neptuno

Nachdem wir im März 2017 bereichtet haben, dass wir uns auf dem Weg gemacht haben und mit dem internationalen Nachhaltigkeitssiegel “Tourcert” zertifizieren zu wollen, können wir euch heute die frohe Botschaft senden, dass wir vor Kurzem die externe Prüfung im unserem Neptuno-Büro bestanden haben.

Nach den nationalen Kriterien, die uns das kolumbianische Gesetz vorschreibt, erfüllen wir nun auch die Regeln und Normen internationaler Standards, die für die Durchsetzung eines nachhaltigeren Tourismus unabdingbar sind . Somit sind wir seit Mitte 2014 beständig auf dem Weg an einem nachhaltigeren Unternehmen zu arbeiten.

Der Fokus von Tourcert lag sehr stark auf der Einbindung des Meinungsbildes von all unseren Partnern, die uns tagtäglich begleiten. Ein zentraler Punkt unserer Arbeit ist dabei gewesen, dass wir wir eine Vielzahl von standardisierten und teils anonymisierten Onlinefragebögen (z.B. an unser Personal in Neptuno, an unsere Guides, Transportpartner, Partner und Provider in Kolumbien etc.) herausgeschickt haben, um die Ergebnisse im Anschluss natürlich genauestens unter die Lupe zu nehmen. Das Resultat war eine Vielzahl von internen Diskussionen und Beschlüssen.

Wir sind davon überzeugt, dass in Zukunft nur touristische Unternehmen weiterhin operieren können, die sie zu nationalen und internationalen Standards der Nachhaltigkeit  verpflichten. An dieser Stelle wollen wir natürlich auch andere Tourismusunternehmen einladen sich auf den Weg zu machen sich in Nachhaltigkeiet zertifizieren zu lassen und für mehr Nachhaltigkeit im eigenen Unternehmen zu sorgen. Alternative tour during the closing of the Tayrona National Park

In one of our latest newsletters we have already reported about the closing of the Tayrona National Park. As the closure remains valid from January 28 to February 28, 2018, we would like to present a new touristic product that we are going to offer for our clients and which is also ideal as a substitute to the closed Tayrona National Park. By visiting an indigenous community of the Kogui population the tour focuses on the concept of a community-based-tourism. Afterwards we will visit the beautiful beach “Los Cocos”

This is the description of tour. Of course it can be adapted to the individual requirements of our travelers:  

Visit to Kogi village Duonomake and Cocos Beach

The indigenous Kogui, who are said to be the direct descendants of the ancient Tayrona civilization, inhabit the valleys of the Palomino, Don Diego, San Miguel and Ancho rivers. Their population is estimated to be more than 10,000 members and all of them are living at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Our so-called “Elder Brothers" take care of the natural treasure of the Sierra, a mountain that in their culture represents the center of the world and source of all life. Even today they naturally take the role of guardians of cosmic balance and are considered one of the most valuable ancestral cultures on the planet. From Santa Marta we drive through the interesting coastal road to the Los Naranjos area. Shortly after crossing the Piedras River we start a 4.5km walk (approx 1h) to the village, where we meet a native guide. Duonamake houses 20 families of the Kogi ethnic group and has 20 bohíos or typical houses and two Cansamaria or meeting centers. We get to look inside the village to learn about the way of life of the Kogis and about their culture. We also visit their cocoa crops and then we will have time to take a bath and cool down in a nearby stream. Afterwards we walk 5km (approx 1h) to the Los Cocos Beach where we have time to enjoy the sea and have lunch (not included, about 1.30-2.00pm). We begin return to SantaMarta at 4pm.

Alternativtour während der Schliessung des Tayrona-Nationalparks

In einem unserer letzten Newsletter hatten wir bereits von der Schliessung des Tayrona-Nationalparks berichtet. Die Schliessung vom 28. Januar 2018 bis zum 28. Februar 2018 bleibt weiterhin bestehen. Hingegen wollen wir in diesem Zusammenhang gleich ein neues touristisches Produkt vorstellen, das wir ab sofort anbieten und das gleichzeitig auch als Ersatzprogramm für den geschlossenen Nationalpark hervorragend geeignet ist. Die Tour orientiert sich mit dem Besuch einer Gemeinde der indigenen Bevölkerungsgruppe der Kogui stark an Konzepten des “community-based-tourism”. Im Anschluss an den Besuch der Indigenengemeinde geht es an den wunderschönen Strand von “Los Cocos”.

Hier die Beschreibung des Programms, die aber natürlich individuell an die Bedürfnisse unserer Kunden angepasst werden kann:

Besuch des Kogui-Dorfs Duonamake und Strand Los Cocos

Die indigenen Koguis sind die direkten Nachfahren der präkolumbianischen Tayrona Zivilisation und sind in den Tälern der Flüsse Palomino, Don Diego, San Miguel und Ancho beheimatet. Man schätzt ihre Bevölkerung auf 10.000, und ihre Heimat sind die Hänge der Sierra Nevada von Santa Marta. Unsere sogenannten “Großen Geschwister”, verstehen sich als Wächter des Naturschatzes der Sierra, die in ihrer Kultur das Zentrum der Welt und Ursprung allen Lebens darstellt. Auch heute noch sehen sie sich als Hüter des kosmischen Gleichgewichts und zählen in unserer heutigen Welt zu einer der wichtigsten und wertvollsten alten Kulturen. Von Santa Marta fahren wir über die interessante Küstenstraße nach Los Naranjos. Kurz nach der Überquerung des Flusses Piedras beginnen wir einen 4,5 km lange Wanderung (ca. 1h) zum Dorf, wo wir einen einheimischen Führer treffen. Duonamake beherbergt 20 Familien der ethnischen Gruppe der Kogui und hat 20 Bohíos oder typische Häuser und zwei Cansamaria oder Versammlungszentren. Wir schauen uns das Dorf an, um mehr über die Lebensweise der Koguis und ihre Kultur zu erfahren. Wir besuchen auch ihre Kakaoernten und dann haben wir Zeit zum Baden und Abkühlen in einem nahen Bach. Danach gehen wir 5km (ca. 1h) zum Strand Los Cocos, wo wir Zeit haben, das Meer zu genießen und zu Mittag zu essen (nicht inbegriffen). Wir beginnen um 16 Uhr mit der Rückkehr nach Santa Marta.

Kolumbien entspannt geniessen – Tour im Februar 2018 bestätigt

Vorübergehende Schliessung des Archäologischen Parks von Tierradentro

Starke Regenfälle haben im „Archäologischen Park von Tierradentro“ einen Schaden an den Wegen (eine kleine Brücke wurde überspült und beschädigt) und an einigen Gräbern verursacht. Deshalb ist der Park im Moment bis auf weiteres nicht zugänglich. Wir rechnen damit, dass der Park in 2-3 Wochen wieder öffnet. 

Wir erinnern Euch daran, dass es andere archäologische Stätten in Tierradentro gibt, die weiterhin besichtigt werden können: Die archäologischen Gräber von „San Andres“ und „Alto de Aguacate“, sowie die Statue von „El Tablon“.

Temporary Closing of the Archeological park of Tierradentro

We would like to remind you about the other smaller archeological sites in Tierradentro such as the tombs of “San Andres” and “Alto de Aguacate” or the statue of “El Tablon”, which still can be visited.

Temporary Closing of the Tayrona National Park

Now it is oficial! We all thought that this will occur. This week we finally received the announcement that the Tayrona National Park at the Caribbean Coast will be closed from 28th of January 2018 til 28th of February 2018. All hotels that are located in the park are closed. Furthermore the operation of day tours into the park is completely suspended. According to the operator of the Tayrona National Park the reason for the temporary closing is a petition of the indigenous people that live in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in order to guarantee the ecological recuperation of the ecosystem. If anybody of our clients is affected by the closing we will contact you immediately.

As a good alternative to the Full Day trip to the Tayrona National Park we propose the following tour. Of course the activity can be adjusted individually to needs of our clients.

Full Day Tour Taironaka & “Playa Los Angeles”

Taironaka is an authentic natural paradise located in the “Don Diego” riverbanks and the foothills of Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. This extinct indigenous settlement still counts with paths and terraces of the Tayrona civilization and nowadays is visited by their descendants, the Kogis. This reserve delights visitors with its exhuberant flora, fascinating landscapes and crystal clear rivers. From Santa Marta we will go through the interesting coastal road until we reach the Don Diego’s riverbanks (90 Mins). From there the journey will be continued on a boat going upstream ‘til we get to the reserve. As a welcome we are received with some typical “patacones and “agua de panela”. Later we visit the small Tayrona Museum to get to know a little more about their history and the way of living of this culture from the past to these recent days. We will visit a typical Kogui home called Bohío and then we continue going around the prehispanic terraces until we get to a small viewpoint (around 1,5 hours). The rest of the time is free. We suggest either a relaxing bath in Don Diego River. Afterwards we visit the amazong beaches of Playa Los Angeles that are located next to the Tayrona National Park.

Vorübergehende Schliessung des Tayrona Nationalparks

Wir haben es schon länger vermutet und jetzt wurde es auch von offizieller Seite endlich bestätigt: Der Tayrona Nationalpark an der kolumbianischen Karibikküste wird von 28. Januar 2018 bis zum 28. Februar 2018 seine Pforten für jegliche Form von Tourismus schliessen. Hierbei werden sämtliche im Park vorhandenen Hotels geschlossen. Ausserdem sind keine Tagesausflüge innerhalb des Parks möglich. Grund fuer die Schliessung ist nach Angaben der Parkbetreiber die ökologische Regenerierung des Nationalparks, die von den in der Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta wohnenden indigenen Bevoelkerungsteilen beantragt wurde. Sollten Gäste von uns betroffen sein werden wir uns selbstverständlich sofort bei euch melden, um rechtzeitig andere individuell an eure Kunden angepasste Alternativen zu suchen und zu finden.

Alternativ für einen Ganztagesausflug in den Nationalpark Tayrona bieten wir euch einen Tagesausflug nach Taironaka und den Strand von “Los Angeles” an. Hier eine Beschreibung, die aber natürlich individuell an die Bedürfnisse unserer Kunden angepasst werden kann:

Tagesausflug Taironaka & Playa Los Angeles

Taironaka ist ein Paradies, das sich am Ufer des Flusses «Don Diego» in den Ausläufern der Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta befindet. Diese ehemalige indigene Siedlung verfügt immer noch über Wege und Terrassen der Tayrona Zivilisation und wird heutzutage von ihren Nachfahren, die Kogi Indianer, frequentiert.  Das Naturreservat beeindruckt den Besucher mit seiner wunderschönen Flora und bietet die Möglichkeit im Fluss zu baden. Nach einer landschaftlich schönen Fahrt entlang der Küstenstraße erreichen Sie den Fluss «Don Diego» nach ca. 90 Minuten. Von hier aus fahren Sie 5 Minuten flussaufwärts mit dem Motorboot. Als Willkommensmenü bekommen Sie  leckere Patacones (fritierte Kochbananen) und eine traditionelle Agua de Panela (Zuckerrohrsaft). Sie besuchen das kleine Tayrona-Museum und lernen die Geschichte und Kultur dieser interessanten Zivilisation kennen. Anschließend besuchen Sie ein  Bohio und wandern durch alte Terrassenkonstruktionen, dabei lernen Sie die Bauweise und Gewohnheiten der Kogui-Indianer näher kennen. Im Anschluss besuchen wir auf dem Rückweg die den Traumstrand “Playa los Angeles”, der sich an der östlichen Grenze des Nationalparks befindet, mit Zeit zum Baden oder fuer einen Strandspaziergang.

News about the Avianca pilot strike

As many of you might already have noticed, there is a strike of about 700 pilots of the Colombian airline Avianca. Although some pilots have now re-integrated into the flight operations, a premature end of the strike is not yet in sight. According to the Colombian Association of Civil Aviators (ACDAC), the union which represents around half of Avianca’s pilots in Colombia, the strike could go on for 60 days. So, in the worst case, the strike will continue until November 19th.
What does this mean to us? We will be informed at least 24 hours before the flight, whether or not the originally booked flight is scheduled. All customers booked on a flight canceled due to the strike are automatically rebooked to another flight (normally just some few hours earlier or later). Normally we get an acceptable alternative, as Avianca has several connections daily on the vast majority of routes. The change of the flight does not cause any extra costs.
We keep you informed about the current developments regarding the strike.

Piloten Streik der Avianca

Wie viele von Euch schon mitbekommen haben, streiken seit dem 20. September ca. 700 Piloten (ca. die Hälfte)  der kolumbianischen Fluggesellschaft Avianca. Zwar haben sich mittlerweile einige Piloten wieder in den Flugbetrieb integriert, dennoch ist ein vorzeitiges Ende des Streiks noch nicht in Sicht und die Fronten zwischen der Fluggesellschaft und der Pilotenvereinigung „ACDAC“ (Asociación Colombiana de Aviadores Civiles) scheinen ziemlich verhärtet. Die Pilotenvereinigung weist in Mitteilungen immer wieder auf Ihr Recht hin, 60 Tage lang zu streiken, ehe sie sich auf ein Schiedsverfahren einlassen muss. Also kann der Streik im schlimmsten Fall noch bis zum 19. November andauern.
Was bedeutet der Streik für uns? Wir werden spätestens 24 Stunden vor dem Flug darüber informiert, ob der ursprünglich gebuchte Flug planmässig geht oder nicht. Alle Kunden, die auf einem Flug gebucht sind, der aufgrund des Streiks abgesagt wurde, werden automatisch auf einen anderen Flug (normalerweise wenige Stunden früher oder später) umgebucht. Weil Avianca auf den allermeisten Strecken mehrere Verbindungen täglich hat, bekommen wir, wenn unser Flug vom Streik betroffen ist, normalerweise eine akzeptable Alternative. Extrakosten entstehen dadurch nicht.

„Wilderness Advanced First Aid“ Course for our guides

A few weeks ago we invited our most important guides in Colombia to participate in a special first aid course in order to handle extreme situations in remote areas. After only a few days all 15 available spaces were booked. The course took place in Suesca only 1.5 hours away from Bogotá, which is famous for its’ good conditions to go climbing.

The participants of the WAFA (Wilderness Advanced First Aid) and WFR (Wilderness First Responder) courses are 15 of our most important tour leaders and tourist guides for the high mountains. Neptuno organized and partially payed for the event to offer our partners the opportunity to gain additional skills in this field and to guarantee ideal treatment in extreme situations. Both courses had as an objective to deal with extensive assessment procedures for injuries, illnesses and problems related to the environment such as altitude sickness and overheating. All participants managed to learn to identify symptoms and treat injuries or illnesses in remote areas, where no doctor, rescue team or hospital can be reached quickly.

After offering a first aid course two years ago, where guides and the entire Neptuno staff were invited to participate, we are happy that guides and staff can now regularly continue their training in this topic. We will continue pursuing this issue!

“Wilderness Advanced First Aid”-Erste Hilfe Kurs für unsere Guides

Vor wenigen Wochen haben wir eine Einladung  an unsere wichtigsten Guides in Klumbien geschickt, um an einem Spezialkurs-Ersten-Hilfe-Kurs ( für Extremsituationen in abgelegenen Regionen)  teilzunehmen. Nach wenigen Tagen waren alle 15 Plätze des Kurses sofort ausgebucht. Der Kurs findet im Kletterparadies Suesca statt, das nur ca. 1,5 Stunden von Bogota entfernt ist. Die Teilnehmer des mehrtägigen WAFA (Wilderness Advanced First Aid) und WFR (Wilderness First Responder) sind 15 unserer wichtigsten Tourleader und Hochgebirgsguides, die wir in Kolumbien haben. Die Aktion wurde von Neptuno mitfinanziert und soll vor allem unsere Guides weiterqualifizieren und natürlich die optimale Versorgung aller Beteiligten in Extremsituationen sicherstellen. 

Inhaltlich geht es bei den beiden Kursen um das umfangreiche Beurteilungsverfahren für Verletzungen, Krankheiten und umweltbezogene Probleme, wie zum Beispiel die Höhenkrankheit oder der Überhitzung. Dabei haben alle Teilnehmer gelernt wie man Symptome identifiziert und Verletzungen oder Krankheiten in abgelegenen Regionen behandelt, in denen kein Arzt, Rettungsteam oder Krankenhaus schnell zu erreichen ist.

Inspection of National Park “Los Nevados”

If you love highland trekking, you have to visit national park “Los Nevados”. To get to know the park’s infrastructure, we visited the park two weeks ago to examine carefully its’ conditions. Within 5 days, the “Neptunos” Camila, Julian and Christopher crossed the Andes’ Central Cordillera from East to West. On horse, on foot, with the help of a piolet, sleeping in tents and sleeping in small fincas – a dream came true!

Our tour began in the village Murillo, east of the Central Cordillera, where we started crossing the mountain range until we finally arrived to the Cocora Valley after 5 days. The typical South American highland vegetation called Páramo was present all the time, which is characteristic for altitudes between 3500 and 4500 metres. Fortunately all of us quickly got used to the altitude and felt better day after day. The highlight of our trip certainly was the morning ascent to “Nevado del Tolima”. 

At 3am we left the base camp at 4500 metres to crest the volcano’s summit at 5220 metres, which we finally reached at 6:30 after withstanding a snowstorm. During our descent, the sky brightened up which gave us the opportunity to enjoy the spectacular view of the smoking active volcano “Nevado del Ruiz”. Turn your phone off and just hike!

Inspektion in den Nationalpark Los Nevados

Wer Hochland-Trekking liebt, der muss den “Parque Nacional Los Nevados” besuchen. Um die gesamte Infrastruktur des Parks etwas besser kennenzulernen, waren wir vor zwei Wochen im Park unterwegs, um alles ganz genau unter die Lupe zu nehmen. In insgesamt fünf Tagen haben die Neptunos Camila, Julian und Christopher die zentrale Andenkordilliere einmal komplett von Ost nach West durchquert. Zu Pferd, zu Fuss, mit dem Eispickel in der Hand, im Zelt schlafend, in kleinen Fincas schlafend - ein Traum ist wahr geworden!

Im östlich der zentralen Andenkordilliere gelegenen Dorf Murillo haben wir unsere Tour begonnen bis wir schliesslich nach 5 Tagen im westlich der zentralen Andenkordilliere gelegenen Corocatal gelandet sind. Die für das kolumbianische Andenhochland so typische Vegetation des “Paramo” begleitete die kompletten fünf Tage. Wir haben uns konstant auf einer Höhe zwischen 3500 und 4500 Meter über dem Meeresspiegel bewegt. Glücklicherweise haben wir uns alle sehr schnell an die Höhe gewöhnt und haben uns von Tag zu Tag fitter gefühlt. Das Highlight der Reise war sicherlich die morgendliche Besteigung des “Nevado del Tolima”. 

Um 3 Uhr morgens sind wir von unserem ca. 4500 Meter hoch gelegenen Basecamp aufgebrochen, um den 5220 Meter hochen Vulkan zu erklimmen. Gegen 6.30 Uhr morgens standen wir dann nach überstandenem Schneesturm auf dem Gipfel. Beim Abstieg klarte es etwas auf und wir haben den spektakulären Ausblick auf den “rauchend-aktiven” Necado del Ruiz gehabt. Handy aus und einfach wandern!!! J

The first Cable Car for Bogotá’s district Ciudad Bolivar – new possibilities for local tourism?

Ciudad Bolivar is located in the south of Bogotá. Its’ developed district is one of the world’s largest urban slums, although the definition of slum is misleading – people live relatively normal lives here, however everything is improvised and in really bad condition. Most houses have been turned from informal into proper housing years ago. Bogotá’s only mass transportation system ‘TransMilenio’, which is composed of large buses running on individual lanes through the city, does not cover much of the area of Ciudad Bolivar. This results in over 700.000 people having little access to the TransMilenio. Bogotá’s government has been trying to improve living conditions and public transport for the people of Ciudad Bolivar, but the mountainous landscape makes it hard to reach deep into the urbanized hilly areas.

Now the construction of a cable car called ‘TransMiCable’ connecting the TransMilenio station ‘Portal El Tunal’ with the neighborhoods up the hill is supposed to improve traffic and transportation in the area. Four stations in different parts of Ciudad Bolivar will be built and thus, save the people time. From the top of the hill down to El Tunal station requires over 1 hour by bus, with the TransMiCable it will be 13.5 minutes. Lots of people are hoping that it will also improve security and attract tourism, as it did in Medellín. The city is a good example of successful city planning and allowing poor neighbourhoods to participate in the city’s everyday life by making the daily commute easier. In Medellín, tourists take the cable cars to once dangerous no-go areas to enjoy the view or go on a tour through the barrios. Service of the first public cable car in Bogotá is supposed to start in 2018 and people can’t wait to see the stations finished.

Die erste Seilbahn für Bogotás Stadtteil ‘Ciudad Bolivar’ – neue Chancen für den Tourismus?

Ciudad Bolivar liegt im äußersten Süden Bogotás, der urbane Teil wird als eines der größten urbanen Slums der Welt bezeichnet, wobei der Begriff „Slum“ irreführend ist – die meisten Menschen Leben relativ normale Leben, gemeint sind jedoch regelwidrige, improvisierte Siedlungen, die schon vor Jahren umgewandelt wurden, jedoch in einem prekären Zustand sind.  Bogotás einziges Massentransportmittel „TransMilenio“, welches aus großen Bussen besteht, die auf eigenen Spuren durch die Stadt fahren, deckt das größte Gebiet der Ciudad Bolivar nicht ab. Das lässt über 700.000 Menschen fast komplett abgeschnitten vom öffentlichen Leben. Bogotás Regierung versucht schon lange Zeit, die Lebensbedingungen der Menschen hier zu verbessern, jedoch macht die bergige Landschaft es schwer bis unmöglich, die sehr steilen Teile der Hügel mit Bussen zu erreichen.

Der Bau einer Gondelbahn mit dem Namen „TransMiCable“, welche die TransMilenio-Station „Portal El Tunal“ mit den auf den Bergen gelegenen Stadtteilen verbindet, soll nun Abhilfe schaffen. Eine Linie mit vier Stationen ist im Bau, welche den Menschen vor Allem Zeit ersparen soll. Mehr als eine Stunde braucht der Bus von den am höchsten gelegenen barrios bis zum „Portal El Tunal“, mit der Gondelbahn werden es nur noch 13,5 Minuten sein. Viele Menschen hoffen, dass sich damit auch die Sicherheitslage verbessert und Touristen angelockt werden, so wie es in Medellín der Fall war und immer noch ist. Die Stadt ist ein gutes Beispiel für erfolgreiche Stadtplanung, indem man arme Viertel am Alltag der Stadt teilhaben lässt und die tägliche Fahrzeit erheblich verringert. In Medellín benutzen Touristen nun die Gondelbahn in vorherige No-Go-Areas, um die Aussicht zu genießen und an Führungen durch die barrios teilzunehmen, wo zum Beispiel Street Art – Touren angeboten werden. Die erste ans öffentliche Verkehrsnetz angeschlossene Gondelbahn Bogotás soll Anfang 2018 eröffnen und die Menschen können schon jetzt kaum erwarten, dass die Bauarbeiten endlich fertig werden.

Pope Francis visiting Colombia

In the past days, Colombia has been preparing for the Pope’s visit in the beginning of September. In only a few days (6^th to 10^th of September 2017) Pope Francis will be visiting different places in Colombia. Besides Bogotá and Villavicencio in the Llanos Orientales, he will also be expected in Medellín and Cartagena. 

In addition, Colombians are hoping that Pope Francis’ visit will have a positive influence on the ongoing peace negotiations between the government and the only still active Guerrilla movement ELN (Ejército de Liberación Nacional). After FARC (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia), ELN is the second biggest rebel group in Colombia. FARC troops and the Colombian government already signed a peace treaty at the end of last year.

This week, representatives of both FARC and the government will meet in Bogotá to prepare the reorganization of former FARC troops in a political party. We are excited and expect the upcoming week’s results to be positive. Many Colombians are looking forward to Pope Francis’ visit. We are also well prepared to deal with the awaited traffic obstructions here in Bogotá. Habemus Papam!

Papstbesuch in Kolumbien

Ganz Kolumbien bereitet sich in diesen Tagen auf den Papstbesuch Anfang September vor. In einigen wenigen Tagen (6. bis 10. September 2017) wird Papst Franziskus verschiedene Ort in Kolumbien besuchen. Neben Bogotá und Villavicencio (Llanos Orientales) wird der Papst in Medellín und Cartagena erwartet. 

Zudem erhofft man sich, dass sich der Papstbesuch positiv auf die aktuellen Friedensverhandlungen zwischen der Regierung und der letzten in Kolumbien aktiven Guerillabewegung ELN  (Nationale Befreiungsarmee) auswirken. Nach den FARC ist der ELN die zweitgrößte Rebellengruppe in Kolumbien. Die FARC und die Regierung von Kolumbien haben bereits Ende des vergangenen Jahres einen Friedensvertrag geschlossen. In dieser Woche treffen sich Vertreter der FARC in Bogota, um die Umwandlung in eine politische Partei vorzubereiten. Wir sind gespannt was in den kommenden Wochen passiert! Viele Kolumbianer erwarten den Besuch von Papst Franziskus mit größter Vorfreude und auch als Neptuno sind wir natürlich bestens auf die kleinen verkehrstechnischen Einschränkungen vorbereitet, die sich aus dem Besuch ergeben. Habemus Papam!

Inspection of diving centres on the Colombian Caribbean Coast

A few days ago Christopher and I (Jasmin) came back from a trip to Santa Marta. During our inspection we went diving and gathered information about the local diving centres in Santa Marta. Especially three centres caught our attention, one in Santa Marta and two in Taganga, a village just 15 minutes by car. All three diving centres convinced us with a good standard of their equipment and service and all three of them count with a pool to practice with beginner students. Neptuno is working on developing a product with the above mentioned diving centres, to be able to offer its’ clients an appropriate option for diving in the future. The big advantage of the diving centre in the centre of Santa Marta is that their head office is located close to the port and that the dive excursions start from there as well - this makes a trip to Taganga in the morning unnecessary.

Many comfortable hotels are located in walking distance and clients can enjoy the comfort of staying in Santa Marta with the luxury of having all amenities close by. Also the service stood out: all our equipment was fully arranged and prepared when we got to the boat, so we could relax when you usually have to concentrate. Chris did his very first dive in his life, our instructor was professional and made us feel comfortable from the first minute. Chris conducted the ‘Minicurso’ excursion, where either the day before or in the morning you get introduced to the theory of diving and learn about the basics you need to know to be able to dive. Later you get to do two dives with an instructor in shallow waters, which cost aprox. 70 USD and include apart from all the equipment, the instructor and the transport also a snack and water. Unfortunately due to the tropical storm Harvey we weren’t allowed by the authorities to dive in the waters of Tayrona National Park, which is where all dive centres usually take their clients – yet, we got to enjoy the underwater world close to Santa Marta at a dive sight called Morro.

Also the dive centres in Taganga offer great service: usually, several languages are spoken, also German, which is a great asset. Most staff have a high command of English.

We absolutely recommend trying Scuba Diving in this area – it will be an unforgettable experience for a great price. Certified divers also get to enjoy the great service the diving centres offer and all standard PADI courses are available. As already mentioned, Promotora Neptuno is working on designing a product with diving in the focus to offer its’ clients in the future.

Inspektion von Tauchschulen an der Karibikküste in Kolumbien

Während unserer letzten Inspektionsreise (Christopher und Jasmin von Neptuno) nach Santa Marta waren wir tauchen und haben allgemein Informationen über die ansässigen Tauchschulen gesammelt. Besonders drei Schulen haben unser Interesse geweckt: Alle drei Tauchcenter haben uns mit ihrem guten Standard des Equipment und Service überzeugt und alle verfügen über einen Pool, wo mit Tauchanfängern während des ersten Kurses geübt wird. Neptuno arbeitet im Moment daran, ein Produkt mit den oben genannten Tauchcentern zu entwickeln, um in der Zukunft seinen Kunden ein gutes Paket in diesem Rahmen anbieten zu können.

Eine der Tauchschulen in Santa Marta, wir kennenlernen durften, hat uns besonders überzeugt: der große Vorteil, den diese Tauchschule hat, ist ihre Lage – mitten im Zentrum Santa Martas und gleichzeitig nah am Hafen, von wo auch deren Tauchexkursionen starten. Dies macht die Fahrt nach Taganga am Morgen überflüssig. Viele gute Hotels sind in Laufnähe gelegen, so können Kunden den Komfort der Unterkunft in Santa Marta mit dem Luxus, alles in Vorzüge vor Ort zu haben, genießen.

Auch der Service hat sich ausgezeichnet: all unser Equipment war war schon vollkommen hergerichtet, als wir zum Boot kamen, so konnten wir uns sogar dann entspannen, wenn man sich normalerweise konzentrieren muss. Chris war zum allerersten Mal in seinem Leben tauchen. Unsere Instruktorin Lili war sehr professionell und hat uns von Anfang an ein gutes Gefühl gegeben. Chris hat einen ‘Minicurso’ gemacht, währenddessen man die wichtigste Theorie zum Tauchen beigebracht bekommt, um Tauchen zu können – die Videosession findet entweder am Tag davor oder früh am Morgen statt. Danach werden zwei Tauchgänge im Meer durchgeführt, auf bis zu 12 Metern, was insgesamt ca. 70 USD kostet und neben dem gesamten Equipment, zwei Flaschen mit Luft und der Instruktorin außerdem einen Snack und Trinkwasser beinhaltet. Bedauerlicherweise durften wir laut der Hafenpolizei nicht in die Gewässer des Parque Tayrona fahren um zu tauchen, da unvorhersehbare Strömungen, ausgelöst durch den Tropensturm Harvey, schnell gefährlich werden können. Normalerweise bringen alle Tauchcenter ihre Kunden zum Parque Tayrona – trotzdem haben wir unsere Tauchgänge genossen, dafür aber in der Nähe des Hafens in Santa Marta, an einem Tauchspot der sich Morro nennt.

Auch zwei weitere Tauchschulen in Taganga bieten einen tollen Service: Eine der beiden ist dabei definitive die teuerste Schule vor Ort, dafür ist das Boot besser ausgestattet und alle zertifizierten Taucher bekommen einen eigenen Tauchcomputer während ihrer Tauchgänge. Was außerdem ein großer Vorteil ist, ist das internationale Personal und dass dieses verschiedene Sprachen spricht, unter anderem auch Deutsch. Den Service einer anderen Schule haben wir nicht ausprobiert, aber die Schule hat einen sehr guten Eindruck gemacht und es wurde sehr gutes Englisch gesprochen und das Equipment war in einem Topzustand.

Wir empfehlen absolut, einmal das Tauchen mit einer der oben genannten Schulen auszuprobieren – es ist ein einmaliges und unvergessliches Erlebnis zu einem tollen Preis. Zertifizierten Tauchern steht außerdem offen, alle PADI-Kurse bei diesen Schulen durchzuführen. Wie bereits erwähnt, arbeitet Neptuno im Moment daran, ein Produkt mit Tauchen im Fokus zu entwickeln, dass wir zukünftig anbieten werden.
