Day 1 – Sunday: Arrival Bogotá

The Colombian capital is located in the very center of the country at approx. 2650 meters above sea level in an area known as the Savanna of Bogotá (Sabana de Bogotá). The east side of the city is flanked by the Cordillera Oriental, which are foothills of the Andes Mountains. In terms of area, Bogotá is Colombia’s largest city: It extends more than 40 km from north to south, and 20km from east to west. It is not only the main economic and industrial center, but also the political heart of the country: The National Legislature, the Supreme Court of Justice and the residence of the President of the Republic (Casa de Nariño) reside here. With its 8 million inhabitants, the city is Colombia’s most populous and the huge cultural offer is among the best and largest in the country - Bogotá is home to numerous museums such as the famous Gold museum or the Botero museum, theatres and libraries.

Day 2 - Monday: Bogotá

FD City Tour with Paloquemao, Monserrate & Botero Museum In the morning visit to the public market of Paloquemao, then city tour with visit to the colonial old town, the Plaza de Bolivar and the surrounding government buildings, churches worth seeing, the Botero museum and a cable car ride to the mountain Monserrate, from where one has a great view on Bogotá, In the afternoon detailed visit to the Gold Museum.
Day 3 - Tuesday: Bogotá - Villa de Leyva

Located only four hours from Bogota, Villa de Leiva is a fascinating, small, colonial town. Founded in 1572 and home to many important politicians, artists and wealthy families of the colonial period it is steeped in history and is extremely well-preserved.  The enormous plaza mayor (the largest in Colombia) is flanked on all sides by red-tiled, white houses and most of the streets are cobbled.  The town is perfect for wandering at a leisurely pace taking in the atmosphere of times gone by and browsing in the handicraft shops. There are also a number of small, but interesting museums. This region of Boyacá was once under the sea surface and a large number of marine fossils can be seen in the area. The scenery of the surrounding countryside is rather Mediterranean in appearance, olives, oranges and curuba are grown in the region.
Our day starts with an overland transport from Bogotá to Villa de Leyva vía Zipaquirá, visiting the unusual Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira. This unique building was constructed approximately 120 meters underground in a former salt mine. Stop en route to visit the pretty village of Ráquira, famous for its handicrafts, the best place in Colombia for buying pottery. We continue towards Villa deLeyva, one of the most beautiful and well-preserved colonial towns in South America. Upon arrival in Villa de Leyva, transfer to our hotel.
Day 4 – Wednesday: Villa de Leyva
We stroll through the village of Villa de Leyva visiting the central plaza with its churches, restaurants and handicraft shops, afterwards we visit the “Ecce Homo” Dominican convent, constructed in the XVII century and continue to a fossil discovered just outside the town, which has been dated at more than 150 million years old, finishing in the Casa de Terra Cotta.
Day 5 – Thursday: Villa de Leyva – Tunja – Bogotá - Girardot

 Girardot is a city with over 100.000 inhabitants located in the department of Cundinamarca about 3 hours southwest of Bogotá. Year-round tropical and hot climate attract tourists from Bogotá especially on the weekend escaping the capital's rainy weather. People search distraction here in the many hotels and resorts, water parks, swimming pools and the Río Magdalena - also excursions in the field of eco-tourism are possible.

After breakfast departure from Villa de Leyva towards Bogotá taking an alternative scenic back-road via Tunja, capital city of the department of Boyacá; we first stop at the most important monument in Colombian history: the “Boyacá Bridge”. On that bridge Simón Bolívar fought and won his most decisive battle against Spanish settlers. When entering Bogotá we pay a visit to the foundation Hogar de Paz where we learn about their project to support adolescents who don´t get much support from their families. Afterwards we cross Bogotá and drive south to Girardot. Here we have a relaxed night at our hotel with pool.
Day 6 – Friday: Girardot – Villavieja/Tatacoa Desert – San Agustin

The Tatacoa Desert is located very close to Neiva in the department of Huila. It is a striking landscape of eroded cliffs and gullies, sculpted by the infrequent rain. Because of the dry, clear conditions, lack of light pollution and location in close proximity to the equator, Tatacoa is a great spot for stargazing – the skies above both the Northern and Southern hemispheres are spread out for all to see. Tatacoa isn't really a desert, although the thermometer states otherwise – it can hit 50°C at times. It's technically a semi-arid dry tropical forest.
In the morning we drive towards Tatacoa Desert. Before getting there we stop for lunch in Villavieja which is located only a few minutes away from the desert. In the afernoon we explore the desert of Tatacoa. Aterwards we continue to Neiva, where we spend the night.
Day 7 – Saturday: Villavieja/Tatacoa -  San Agustin

San Agustín is a village in the southern department of Huila, which is located 227 km from Neiva and counts a population of around 30,000. The village was originally founded in 1752 by Alejo Astudillo, but attacks by indigenous people destroyed it. In 1790, Lucas de Herazo y Mendigaña founded the present village. The temperature averages 18 °C year-round. The area is very well known for its pre-Columbian archaeological sites, known as the San Agustín Archaeological Park, which generates significant revenue to the economy due to the high volume of tourists, both Colombian and foreigners. In 1995, UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site. After breakfast, we drive through a scenic landscape to San Agustin, the archaeological hotspot of Colombia where we spent two nights. In the afternoon we visit the San Agustín Archaeological Park, which is formed by the “Mesitas” and the “Fuente Ceremonial de Lavapatas”. We end the day with a visit to the Archaeological Museum.

Day 8 – Sunday: San Agustín

Today we head to the famous strait of the Río Magdalena. Here, the longest river of Colombia narrows and is just 2 meters wide. The afternoon is free, so take your time to relax13

Day 9 - Monday: San Agustín - Popayán

Popayán is the capital of the Cauca department. Founded by Sebastian de Belalcazar in 1537, Popayán is located in the Valley of Pubenza between the Western and Central Cordillera in the southwest of the country. The old and historic center of Popayán is considered one of the most beautiful and best preserved in Colombia as well as in all of Latin America. In the morning we travel to Popayan. We stop at the Village Isnos where nearby we will find some more impressive tombs and statues at Alto de los Idolos. We continue our Journey from San Agustin to Popayan (4-5 hours), crossing the beautiful Puracé National Natural Park. We will observe some more Colombian landscapes as the Andean cloud forest and the Paramos. Arrival in Popayan, also known as the white City. In the afternoon walking tour through Popayan or time to rest.

 

Day 10 – Tuesday: Popayan – Silvia – Popayán - Timbío – Popayán

In the morning we visit the village Silvia, where every Tuesday the Guambiano people come together at a busy market. Find interesting fruits and vegetables you might not have known before, as well as unique handicrafts. Depending on the hour, we either have lunch in Silvia, o r upon arrival in Popayan, before we continue toTimbío, one of the few places where the silk production, which was initiated by the state about 40 years ago, still persist. Here, the entire production process – from cultivating the mulberry leaves to the production of the silk threads – is entirely in women’s hands. 
Transfer from Popayán to Timbío, where the welcoming and strong women show and tell us everything about their daily work on a tour through the mulberry fields, the nursery and pupating stations of the silk worms, as well as the final processing of the raw silk. After a delicious local snack and a visit of the local silk craft store, we head back to Popayán.

Day 11 – Wednesday: Popayan – Buga - Quimbaya

Transfer from Popayan to the Coffee Region with a stop a short stop in Buga, where the famous Basilica del Señor de los Milagros is located. Further transfer to our charming hotel in the coffee region. 
 

Day 12 – Thursday: Coffee Region

Half Day Cacao Tour on a family run Cacao Finca We leave our Hotel towards the city of Armenia. In case of bad weather we change to Willy jeeps to make our way to Hacienda Evelyza, where we visit the plantation of different native and non-native varieties of cocoa. The owner of the Hacienda shares his profound knowledge of the cultivation, history and culture of cacao. During the tour through we taste various cacao fruits, and see how the grafts for no new seedlings are made. Finally we arrive at the main house where we experience the fermentation-, drying- and artesanal grinding-process. After tasting a delicious, selfmade hot chocolate, we return to our accommodation or continue to our next activity. Duration of the activity: about 3 hours, Total duration with transportation to and from the hotel: about 6 hours

Day 13 – Friday: Quimbaya – Alarcá - Manizales

 

Today we take it easy and enjoy the grounds of the finca in the morning, before we drive north towards Manizales. On the way we stop at a typical “trapiche”, where sugar cane is processed to raw sugar cane blocks called “panela”. Panela is used in every colombian household and is a great alternative to white sugar. We either have lunch close by or continue to our final destination Hacienda Venecia in the outskirts of Manizales.

Day 14– Saturday: Manizales

 

Half Day Coffee Process Hacienda Venecia

(Either in the morning or in the afternoon) Sprawling across hills upon hills of coffee crops this traditional hacienda looks like straight out of a Colombian coffee advert. Lovingly refurbished buildings, designed gardens and facilities combine old colonial charme with modern amenities. First of all we receive an introduction to how the beans are cultivated and harvested, then to how they are selected and processed and eventually how the beans are roasted and ground into rich premium highland coffee ready for packaging. Tour is shared with other visitors. Recommendation: Spend the other half of the day exploring the ground of the finca – coffee plantations, cacao plantations, plantain plantations, lots of birds,…

Day 15 – Sunday: Manizales – Honda

Around midday We leave Manizales and descend the Andes to the Magdalena river valley, to get the quaint little city of Honda. If times allows, we stop at the beautiful hot springs of Ruiz on the way there.

Day 16 – Monday: Honda

 

Half Day Walking Tour Honda

Halfday walking tour through this historic river town, found in 1643, located directly at the Magdalena River. Visit of the market (plaza de mercado), the puente Navarro Bridge, some colonial houses and the “Museo del rio”. Duration: approx. 3 hours

Day 17 – Tuesday: Honda – Bogotá Today we drive back to the capital Bogotá. Going up the Andes central mountain chains we pass get to enjoy some unforgettable panoramic views and can stop anytime to take potos.

Note: In case the clients have an early flight, we can chose to either leave Honda very early, or to spend the last night in Bogota (e.g. Aloft Hotel, close to the airport)

 

GRUPPENREISE KOLUMBIEN & PANAMA - VON BOGOTÀ NACH BOCAS

Auf dieser Kombi-Reise nehmt ihr alles mit: Quirlige Metropolen, bilderbuchschöne Kolonialstädte, Kaffee-Fincas und Berge, blühende Landschaften, und last but not least, karibischen Strand.

Im faszinierenden Kolumbien starten Sie Ihre Reise in der auf über 2600 m gelegenen Hauptstadt Bogota, die mit ihren alten kolonialen Häusern und Plätzen überraschend hübsch ist, bevor Sie die Kolonialorte Villa de Leyva und die "Perle" Kolumbiens, Cartagena, besuchen.

Von hier aus fliegen Sie ins kleine Nachbarland Panama. Lassen Sie sich von der lebendigen und bunten Hauptstadt Panama City faszinieren, in der Hochhäuser, alte vergessene Villen und grüne Hügel nebeneinander existieren. Genießen Sie danach Natur Pur in Boquete: Sie wandern, besuchen eine Kaffeefarm und spazieren auf Hängebrücken! Zum Schluss bringen wir Sie ans Karibische Meer von Bocas del Toro, wo weitere Abenteuer und atemberaubende Strände auf Sie warten.

Tag 1, Montag: Bogotá – Ankunft

Ankunft in Bogotá, wo wir durch die örtliche deutschsprechende Reiseleitung begrüsst werden.  Transfer zu unserem Hotel in der kolonialen Altstadt.

Tag 2, Dienstag: Bogotá

Vormittags lernen wir auf einer halbtägigen Stadtbesichtigung zu Fuβ die kolumbianische Hauptstadt Bogotá kennen und verstehen, warum sie zu den lebenswertesten Groβstädten Südamerikas gehört. Wir besichtigen die koloniale Altstadt „La Candelaria“, das internationale Zentrum, den Bolivar-Platz, einige schöne Kirchen und das weltbekannte Goldmuseum.  Abschluss bildet eine Seilbahnfahrt auf den Monserrate-Berg. Von hoch oben bietet sich uns ein spektakulärer Rundblick auf die Stadt.  Nachmittags besuchen wir ein kleines Café, bei dem wir bei einer Kaffeeprobe alles über die verschiedenen Zubereitungsarten und den speziellen Geschmack von kolumbianischem Hochlandkaffee kennenlernen.

Tag 3, Mittwoch: Bogotá – Villa de Leyva

Nach einem ausgiebigen Frühstück fahren wir aus Bogotá heraus in nördlicher Richtung bis Zipaquira. Hier besichtigen wir die berühmte Salzkathedrale. Im Anschluss geht die Fahrt weiter über Chiquinquira und Raquira bis nach Villa de Leyva. Schon bei der Einfahrt in das Dorf durch die kopfsteingepflasterten Gassen erahnen wir, warum es zu den schönsten Kolonialdörfern Südamerikas gehört. Transfer in ein gemütliches Kolonialhotel. 1 Nacht inkl. Frühstück. Nachmittags erleben wir Villa de Leyva mit seinen kolonialen Häusern, Gassen und Ecken und fühlen uns einige Jahrhunderte zurückversetzt.

Tag 4, Donnerstag: Villa de Leyva – Cartagena

Am Vormittag Fortsetzung des Rundgangs durch Villa de Leyva und seiner Umgebung. Gegen Mittag fahren wir, mit kurzem Stopp an der Boyaca-Brücke, wo Simon Bolivar die entscheidende Schlacht gegen die spanischen Eroberer schlug, zurück nach Bogotá und direkt zum Flughafen. Nach einem ca. einstündigen Flug hoch an die Karibikküste erreichen wir Cartagena, eine der schönsten Städte Südamerikas. Transfer in ein schönes Hotel in Cartagenas Altstadt und direkt am Meer.

Tag 5, Freitag: Cartagena

Nach einem Frühstück in den warmen Tropen lernen wir die Geheimnisse und Schätze Cartagenas kennen. Die koloniale Altstadt, die von einer insgesamt 11 km langen Befestigungsanlage umgeben ist, bietet unzählige historische Bauten. Von der beeindruckenden Festung San Felipe, sie liegt auf einem Hügel vor der Altstadt, haben wir einen großartigen Blick auf die Stadt und das karibische Meer. Ebenso vom "Convento de la Popa", einem Konvent der augustinischen Bettelmönche, welches 1607 gegründet wurde, und von Papst Johannes Paul II. 1986 besucht wurde. Besonders abends, wenn eine Brise vom karibischen Meer kommt, der Verkehr abnimmt und das Klappern der Pferdehufe durch die Gassen hallt, ist die Stimmung am besten.

Der Nachmittag steht zur freien Verfügung.

Tag 6, Samstag: Cartagena – Panama City

Im Laufe des Tages Transfer zum Flughafen und Weiterflug nach Panama.

Unser Fahrer wird am Ausgang des Flughafens auf Sie warten, anschließend Transfer zum Hotel im Stadtzentrum. In der Umgebung finden Sie Einkaufsstraßen, Restaurants und Bars.

Tag 7, Sonntag: Panama City Tour

Am Morgen starten Sie zur ersten Besichtigung der 1519 gegründeten faszinierenden Stadt. Die hinreißende Kulisse aus Wolkenkratzern, noblen Villen und grünen Hügeln wird Sie begeistern.

Zuerst werden Sie die Ruinen von Panama Viejo aus dem 16. Jahrhundert sehen. Anschließend geht es entlang des Ufers in die Altstadt Casco Antiguo. Heute finden sich hier die ältesten Einrichtungen und Gebäude der modernen Stadt; lokal wird das Viertel Casco Viejo oder Casco Antiguo genannt. Auf einem Rundgang zu Fuß sehen Sie viele einzigartige Kolonialbauten, wobei einige noch weitgehend im Originalzustand erhalten sind und andere liebevoll und farbenfroh restauriert wurden. Das historische Viertel ist UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe und hat sich in den letzten Jahren zum Zentrum des Landes für Kunst, Design und kulturellen Aufschwung entwickelt. Viele neue Bars, Dachterrassen, Restaurants und Hotels haben hier eröffnet. Die Fahrt führt danach auf den Causeway, von wo Sie einen herrlichen Blick auf die Skyline von Panama City haben. Danach geht es zu den Miraflores Schleusen des Panama-Kanals. Hier erhalten Sie einen ersten Einblick in die Funktionsweise und Ausmaße des berühmten Panama-Kanals. Die Terrasse bietet einen einmaligen Blick auf die Schleusen und auf die Schiffe, die die Schleusen auf ihrem Weg in Richtung Pazifik oder Atlantik passieren. Der Panamakanal ist eine der wichtigsten Wasserstraßen der Welt. Pro Jahr passieren ihn etwa 14 000 Schiffe, etwa sechs Prozent des Welthandels werden durch ihn abgewickelt. Im dazugehörigen Museum erfahren Sie viel Wissenswertes rund um den Kanal.

 

Tag 8, Montag: Panamá City - David - Boquete

Morgens Transfer zum nationalen Flughafen und ca. 45-minütiger Flug nach David. Von hier aus bringt Sie unser Fahrer nach Boquete mit seinem frühlingshaft angenehmen Klima.

Boquete ist eine kleine Stadt am Caldera River, im westlichen Panama und ist bekannt für die Freundlichkeit seiner Bewohner, sein kühles, frisches Klima und die unberührte Natur. Blumen, Kaffee, Gemüse und Zitrusfrüchten blühen in ihrem reichen Boden.

Entdecken Sie zuerst den kleinen Ort Boquete, bevor Sie am Nachmittag eine kleine Wandertour in der wunderschönen Umgebung von Boquete erwartet - mit englischsprachigem lokalen Guide. Vielleicht sehen Sie sogar den seltenen Quetzal-Vogel?

Ende der Tour am Hotel und Check-in.

Tag 9, Dienstag: Boquete

Am Morgen erwartet Sie ein Erlebnis der besonderen Art: ein aufregender Spaziergang auf Hängebrücken. Bekommen Sie von oben einen ganz neuen Blick auf die Natur. Beobachten Sie Nebelwald und Wasserfälle aus der Vogelperspektive! Ein unvergessliches Erlebnis!

Am Nachmittag entführen wir Sie in die Welt des Kaffees. Sie besuchen die Kaffeeplantage in der Nähe des Hotels. Ihnen wird der Anbau, die Ernte und Verarbeitung der Kaffeefrucht erläutert. Zum Abschluss des Rundganges gibt es natürlich auch eine Kostprobe des herrlich schmeckenden Getränks.

Tag 10, Mittwoch: Boquete - Almirante - Bocas del Toro

Am Morgen bringt Sie ein privater Transfer in knapp 3 Stunden, Fahrt über die Cordillera de Talamanca und danach entlang der Karibikküste und durch immer wechselnde Vegetation, nach Almirante. Am Bootssteg steigen Sie in ein Wassertaxi, das Sie in ca. 30 Minuten zur Insel Colón fährt. In der Stadt finden Sie gemütliche Bars, Restaurants, Souvenir-Stände und Läden. Es herrscht eine entspannte, typisch karibische Atmosphäre. Nachmittag zur freien Verfügung. Entdecken Sie den Ort oder leihen Sie sich Kayaks oder Fahrräder aus, um bspw. den schönen Strand von Playa Bluff zu erkunden. Oder nehmen Sie ein Wassertaxi nach Carenero und gönnen Sie sich einen Cocktail mit Aussicht im Bibi´s on the Beach!

 

Tag 11, Donnerstag: Bocas del Toro / Bootsausflug Red Frog Beach

Heute erwartet Sie ein Bootsausflug. Zunächst führt Sie das Boot durch kleinere Meeresgassen, die sich durch die vielbewachsenen Mangrovenwälder schlängeln. Halten Sie dabei Ausschau nach Wasservögeln! Anschließend geht es zum Coral Cay, wo das Meer das ganze Jahr lang ruhig ist und somit geeignet für Schnorchler jeden Alters. Lokale Restaurants, die auf Stelzen über dem Wasser gebaut sind, bieten verschiedene Meeresfrüchte an (nicht inklusive).

Später geht die Bootsfahrt weiter zur Insel Bastimentos. Die Insel ist rundherum von Mangroven bewachsen, und ist umgeben von Natur und guter Luft. Isla Bastimentos besteht zum Großteil noch aus Dschungel, es gibt keine Straßen oder Landebahnen. Aus diesem Grund kann die Insel auch nur mit dem Boot angefahren werden.

Nicht nur Abenteurer oder Naturfreaks finden sich in Isla Bastimentos ein, denn hier befindet sich einer der bekanntesten Strände Bocas del Toros, der "Red Frog Beach", der seinen Namen von den roten Pfeilgiftfröschen erhalten hat. Innerhalb der Insel gibt es viele Pfade und Wege durch den Dschungel, die zum Erkunden einladen. Die bekannteste Aktivität ist es aber, "die Seele einfach mal baumeln zu lassen" und den Klängen des Meeres zu lauschen. Am Nachmittag fahren Sie zurück zur Hauptinsel.

 

Tag 12, Freitag: Bocas del Toro / Ende des Programms

Heute nach dem Frühstück endet das gemeinsame Programm.

1. Cultural exchange and nature experience in Montes de María

This is a full day activity but you must know that it is far from Cartagena and most of the time you will be transporting yourself through different areas getting a look of the real Cartagena. At the arrival you will be able to contemplate the nature of the Maco hill with a hike, you will use the traditional vehicle of the area for a short trip, you will visit a farm with coffee plantations, you will taste the local gastronomy and you will visit a workshop where the traditional hammocks and backpacks of San Jacinto are woven. 2. Mountain Bike tour on the Tierra Bomba island

A sport day in Cartagena is healthy and funny as long as we protect ourselves from the sun! This full day tour offers us the opportunity to ride our bikes around Tierra Bomba, an island located ery close to the mainland in front of Cartagena Bay.

We will start early in the morning, take a 15 minute boat ride to the island and ride for 3 hours on different trails including the seashore. At the end we will receive some food to recharge energies and we will enjoy the sea before our boat takes us back to Cartagena.
