FERIA DE FLORES - AUGUST 2023

The dates for this year's Feria de Flores (flower festival) are out: from July 28th to August 07th, Medellin will once again be turned into an ocean of flowers! 

It is the most emblematic celebration of the city of Medellin, Colombia. For 11 days thousands of people gather around this celebration that culminates with the Silleteros Parade (silleteros = people carrying big flower arrangements on their back), which this 2023 celebrates its 66th edition. The flower fair is meant to remember and honor the values of Antioquia. During these dates those who visit the city of Medellín experience the deep roots of the local culture and enjoy an extensive program of shows, not all of them related to flowers.

The flower fair is the main celebration of the people of Antioquia and is one of the largest horticultural events in the world. During these days the city blooms showing the ancestral themes of its culture. It brings together tourists and Antioqueños to enjoy flowers, gastronomy, entertainment and harmony. The program offers hundreds of activities that spice up the fair, among them the following stand out:

- The music stages throughout the entire city.
- Fondas de mi tierra.
- Concerts, music and dances.
- National Trova Festival in the Desires Park.
- La Feria a Ritmo de Bicicleta (festival to the rhythm of the bike), a "ciclopaseo" through the streets of Medellín.
- Classic and Antique Car Parade through the main streets of Medellín.
- Parade of Silleteros, the floral spectacle of the event.

The Silleteros Parade is the central event of the fair and takes place on Monday, August 7, 2023. With this parade, the fair comes to an end. More than 500 farmers display millions of flowers loaded on their backs in so called silletas (flower arrangements), weighing up to 70 kilos. It is a tradition that lasts from generation to generation. The silletas compose beautiful landscapes, portraits and messages with native values. The route of this parade is two kilometers long.
