Temporary Closing of the Archeological park of Tierradentro

Due to damages on the paths and on tombs caused by strong rainfalls, the “Archeological Park of Tierradentro” is currently closed until further notice. We estimate, that the park will re-open in 2-3 weeks. We will keep you informed about the re-opening.

We would like to remind you about the other smaller archeological sites in Tierradentro such as the tombs of “San Andres” and “Alto de Aguacate” or the statue of “El Tablon”, which still can be visited.

Temporary Closing of the Tayrona National Park

Now it is oficial! We all thought that this will occur. This week we finally received the announcement that the Tayrona National Park at the Caribbean Coast will be closed from 28th of January 2018 til 28th of February 2018. All hotels that are located in the park are closed. Furthermore the operation of day tours into the park is completely suspended. According to the operator of the Tayrona National Park the reason for the temporary closing is a petition of the indigenous people that live in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in order to guarantee the ecological recuperation of the ecosystem. If anybody of our clients is affected by the closing we will contact you immediately.

As a good alternative to the Full Day trip to the Tayrona National Park we propose the following tour. Of course the activity can be adjusted individually to needs of our clients.

Full Day Tour Taironaka & “Playa Los Angeles”

Taironaka is an authentic natural paradise located in the “Don Diego” riverbanks and the foothills of Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. This extinct indigenous settlement still counts with paths and terraces of the Tayrona civilization and nowadays is visited by their descendants, the Kogis. This reserve delights visitors with its exhuberant flora, fascinating landscapes and crystal clear rivers. From Santa Marta we will go through the interesting coastal road until we reach the Don Diego’s riverbanks (90 Mins). From there the journey will be continued on a boat going upstream ‘til we get to the reserve. As a welcome we are received with some typical “patacones and “agua de panela”. Later we visit the small Tayrona Museum to get to know a little more about their history and the way of living of this culture from the past to these recent days. We will visit a typical Kogui home called Bohío and then we continue going around the prehispanic terraces until we get to a small viewpoint (around 1,5 hours). The rest of the time is free. We suggest either a relaxing bath in Don Diego River. Afterwards we visit the amazong beaches of Playa Los Angeles that are located next to the Tayrona National Park.

Vorübergehende Schliessung des Tayrona Nationalparks

Wir haben es schon länger vermutet und jetzt wurde es auch von offizieller Seite endlich bestätigt: Der Tayrona Nationalpark an der kolumbianischen Karibikküste wird von 28. Januar 2018 bis zum 28. Februar 2018 seine Pforten für jegliche Form von Tourismus schliessen. Hierbei werden sämtliche im Park vorhandenen Hotels geschlossen. Ausserdem sind keine Tagesausflüge innerhalb des Parks möglich. Grund fuer die Schliessung ist nach Angaben der Parkbetreiber die ökologische Regenerierung des Nationalparks, die von den in der Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta wohnenden indigenen Bevoelkerungsteilen beantragt wurde. Sollten Gäste von uns betroffen sein werden wir uns selbstverständlich sofort bei euch melden, um rechtzeitig andere individuell an eure Kunden angepasste Alternativen zu suchen und zu finden.

Alternativ für einen Ganztagesausflug in den Nationalpark Tayrona bieten wir euch einen Tagesausflug nach Taironaka und den Strand von “Los Angeles” an. Hier eine Beschreibung, die aber natürlich individuell an die Bedürfnisse unserer Kunden angepasst werden kann:

Tagesausflug Taironaka & Playa Los Angeles

Taironaka ist ein Paradies, das sich am Ufer des Flusses «Don Diego» in den Ausläufern der Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta befindet. Diese ehemalige indigene Siedlung verfügt immer noch über Wege und Terrassen der Tayrona Zivilisation und wird heutzutage von ihren Nachfahren, die Kogi Indianer, frequentiert.  Das Naturreservat beeindruckt den Besucher mit seiner wunderschönen Flora und bietet die Möglichkeit im Fluss zu baden. Nach einer landschaftlich schönen Fahrt entlang der Küstenstraße erreichen Sie den Fluss «Don Diego» nach ca. 90 Minuten. Von hier aus fahren Sie 5 Minuten flussaufwärts mit dem Motorboot. Als Willkommensmenü bekommen Sie  leckere Patacones (fritierte Kochbananen) und eine traditionelle Agua de Panela (Zuckerrohrsaft). Sie besuchen das kleine Tayrona-Museum und lernen die Geschichte und Kultur dieser interessanten Zivilisation kennen. Anschließend besuchen Sie ein  Bohio und wandern durch alte Terrassenkonstruktionen, dabei lernen Sie die Bauweise und Gewohnheiten der Kogui-Indianer näher kennen. Im Anschluss besuchen wir auf dem Rückweg die den Traumstrand “Playa los Angeles”, der sich an der östlichen Grenze des Nationalparks befindet, mit Zeit zum Baden oder fuer einen Strandspaziergang.

News about the Avianca pilot strike

As many of you might already have noticed, there is a strike of about 700 pilots of the Colombian airline Avianca. Although some pilots have now re-integrated into the flight operations, a premature end of the strike is not yet in sight. According to the Colombian Association of Civil Aviators (ACDAC), the union which represents around half of Avianca’s pilots in Colombia, the strike could go on for 60 days. So, in the worst case, the strike will continue until November 19th.
What does this mean to us? We will be informed at least 24 hours before the flight, whether or not the originally booked flight is scheduled. All customers booked on a flight canceled due to the strike are automatically rebooked to another flight (normally just some few hours earlier or later). Normally we get an acceptable alternative, as Avianca has several connections daily on the vast majority of routes. The change of the flight does not cause any extra costs.

Piloten Streik der Avianca

Wie viele von Euch schon mitbekommen haben, streiken seit dem 20. September ca. 700 Piloten (ca. die Hälfte)  der kolumbianischen Fluggesellschaft Avianca. Zwar haben sich mittlerweile einige Piloten wieder in den Flugbetrieb integriert, dennoch ist ein vorzeitiges Ende des Streiks noch nicht in Sicht und die Fronten zwischen der Fluggesellschaft und der Pilotenvereinigung „ACDAC“ (Asociación Colombiana de Aviadores Civiles) scheinen ziemlich verhärtet. Die Pilotenvereinigung weist in Mitteilungen immer wieder auf Ihr Recht hin, 60 Tage lang zu streiken, ehe sie sich auf ein Schiedsverfahren einlassen muss. Also kann der Streik im schlimmsten Fall noch bis zum 19. November andauern.
Was bedeutet der Streik für uns? Wir werden spätestens 24 Stunden vor dem Flug darüber informiert, ob der ursprünglich gebuchte Flug planmässig geht oder nicht. Alle Kunden, die auf einem Flug gebucht sind, der aufgrund des Streiks abgesagt wurde, werden automatisch auf einen anderen Flug (normalerweise wenige Stunden früher oder später) umgebucht. Weil Avianca auf den allermeisten Strecken mehrere Verbindungen täglich hat, bekommen wir, wenn unser Flug vom Streik betroffen ist, normalerweise eine akzeptable Alternative. Extrakosten entstehen dadurch nicht.
