Coffee-Process near Bogotá

Last weekend we went on an inspection trip close to Bogotá, more precisely in the region around Choachi where we discovered some interesting coffee fincas. The surrounding areas of Choachi are no traditional coffee-growing areas. Only by an impulse from the coffee-confederation in 2009 they started to grow coffee-plants in this particular region. Since then the area around Choachi turned out to be an excellent coffee producing region. A visit of this area is particularly interesting for clients who only stay for a short time in Colombia and do not have enough time to visit the classic coffee-regions but still want to learn more about the coffee production. Close to Choachi there is a large number of coffee fincas that can be visited. Choachi can be reached in only 60 minutes from the historic center of Bogotá. In only 3 minutes one will leave the mega-city and you will find yourself in the middle of the green hearts. 

An attractive, well-constructed, switchback road will take you to 3.300 metres above sea level. From there one can do some hiking through the unique ecosystem of the paramour highlands and get to know the famous plant species “Frailejon” and then you will descend to 1.700 meters again. This is the perfect altitude for growing coffee. One of the most popular and traditional coffee fincas is the Hacienda Coloma in Fusagasuga. In order to get there one will need at least 2 hours by car. We are in the process of creating a new touristic product which aims to give our clients a better understanding of the coffee production in less than an hour drive from the historic center Candelaria. Inklusionsprojekt im Zentrum Bogotas

Heute präsentieren wir euch eines der Sozialprojekte, das wir seit kurzer Zeit unterstützen. Das “Proyecto FRIESE”  befindet sich  im schönsten Teil des Altstadtzentrums Bogotas und möchte bessere Chancen für Menschen mit Behinderung schaffen. Nach Angaben der WHO leben weltweit 15 % der Bevölkerung mit erhöhtem Förderbedarf. In Kolumbien lebt ein Grossteil dieser Menschen in prekären Verhältnissen, da es von staatlicher Seite nur begrenzte Unterstützung für diese Familien gibt. Nach Angaben des statistischen Bundesamts Kolumbiens (DANE) haben bisher nur 13 % der Kinder und Heranwachsenden mit besonderem Förderbedarf Zugang zum Bildungssystem.

Die Arbeit des beispielhaften Sozialprojekts dient der Entstigmatisierung von Menschen mit besonderem Förderbedarf. Das Projekt setzt sich ein für eine inklusive Gesellschaft, in der alle Menschen mit ihren individuellen Fähigkeiten akzeptiert und wertgeschätzt werden. Die Teilnahme aller  Beteiligten ist dabei komplett kostenfrei. In dem Gartenprojekt “Huertolaria” (das Wort setzt sich zusammen aus “Huerta / der Garten” und Candelaria) arbeiten eine Reihe von Menschen mit Behinderung, Nachbarn der umliegenden Strassen und viel Interessierte auf einem leerstehenden Grundstück nach dem Konzept der Permakultur. Die Bioprodukte werden das ganze Jahr über im Zentrum Bogotas verkauft. Ein Ort, an dem die unterschiedlichsten Leute zusammenkommen und sich austauschen. Das Projekt kann natürlich auch bei Interesse von unseren gemeinsamen Kunden besucht werden.

Inclusion Project in the centre of Bogotá

Today we would like to present you one of the social projects which we are recently supporting. “Proyecto Friese” is located in the most beautiful part of the historic centre of Bogotá and it aims to create better conditions for people with disabilities. According to the WHO 15% of the global population have difficulties in functioning. A large part of these people living in precarious conditions can be found in Colombia because the State only provides limited support. According to the Federal Statistical Office of Colombia (DANE) only 13% of children and adolescents with special support requirements have access to the education system. 

The project’s exemplary work serves to destigmatize people with special need for support. The project supports an inclusive society in which all people and their different capabilities are accepted and appreciated. The participation of all parties is completely free of charge. A lot of people with disabilities, neighbors and interested people  are working in the main Project of “Friese”, the garden project “Huertolaria”, that started 3 years ago on an unoccupied property. The word “Huertolaria” consists of “huerta: the garden” and the Old City Candelaria. “Huertolaria” is focussing  on the concept of permaculture and the organic products are sold in the centre of Bogotá the whole year round. A nice place where all kinds of people meet an exchange views. If our clients are interested, they are of course able to visit the project.

This year for Christmas we made a few donations to some social projects and nonprofit foundations. We are actively supporting those five Project's:

·                „Hogar de Paz“ –  Project for school kids of low income families in marginal areas of Bogota 

·                „Amigos del Abuelo“ – Retirement home for homeless people 

·                „Fundacion Bosconia“ – Education for homeless children 

·                „Niños de los Andes“ – Is helping homeless children to reintegrate in their families and society

·                „Proyecto Friese“ – The Project runs an organic garden in the Old City in Bogotá. It employs mentally handicapped people and represents a place of peace for the community.

„Proyecto Friese“ -  Das Projekt betreibt einen Garten in der Altstadt, indem organisch angebaut wird. Das Gartenprojekt beschäftigt geistig behinderte Menschen und stellt ein Ort Ruhe und Zusammenkunft für die Gemeinschaft dar.

Airline News

Air Canada announced new service to Colombia, through the offering of a Toronto – Cartagena nonstop flight, every Monday. Operating on a seasonal basis from 18th of December 2017  to 09th of April 2018, the airline will operate Airbus A319 aircraft once a week.

Since 28th of March 2017 KLM offers a regular new flight to Bogotá and Cartagena as a triangular flight with the Boeing Dreamliner four times a week. The flight departs in Amsterdam, lands in Bogotá and Cartagena and than returns to Amsterdam.

Latam will have a new direct flight between Medellin and Lima. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The new route starts 26th of February 2018.

Airline-Neuigkeiten

Hier noch ein paar Neuigkeiten zu neuen Flugverbindung nach Kolumbien und Lateinamerika.

Air Canada wird ab dem 18.12.2017 bis zum 09.04.2018 einen hochsaisonbedingten Direktflug zwischen Toronto und Cartagena haben, immer montags.

KLM bedient seit dem 25.03.2017 immer vier mal pro Woche die Verbindung zwischen Amsterdam und Kolumbien. Amsterdam – Bogota – Cartagena – Amsterdam. Die Verbindung ist sehr interessant weil ja die meisten unserer gemeinsamen Kunden ihre letzten Tage ihrer Reise in Cartagena ausklingen lassen und somit direkt nach Europa fliegen können.

Ab dem 26. Februar 2018 wird es immer montags, mittwochs und freitags einen Flug von Latam zwischen Medellin und Lima geben.
