For the next couple of days, we (Stephan and Torsten) are on the road, visiting different spots in Colombia to gather first hand information about the current travel situation in times of the Corona pandemia.
We will share our experiences and findings with you via videos, photos and brief explanations on this blog and on our social media.
Stay tuned!
DAY 12, November 29th: CARIBBEAN COAST (BARÙ - CARTAGENA)
Our penultimate day started off just horribly...that is, with a fantastic view from the balcony of our room in the Hotel Las Islas to the beach right in front of us ;) Although the hotel was fully booked, we never saw the white beach in front of our bungalow crowded.
What we had already noticed throughout our trip, became even clearer here:
Especially in the more spacious hotels, you never feel like there is not enough space to keep your "social distance". You feel absolutely bio-secure!
The view of the Caribbean, blue-turquoise sea, definitely made us want to go for a dip before continuing our trip to the center of Cartagena. Breakfast was served at Tía Coco one of the five excellent restaurants of the hotel. The restaurant is on a rectangular platform in the sea, offering a great panoramic view of the ocean, the small islands of the archipelago Islas del Rosario and the shore in front where the bungalows are located.
One dip into the ocean later, we are already sitting in the car, driving to Cartagena's historic center, to one of the most beautiful hotels in South America - the Sofitel Santa Clara. With its spacious courtyard and ample hotel facilities, it is the ideal place to spend the very last night of our trip in the heart of the beautiful old town of Cartagena. The check-in is done according to the current biosecurity protocols, without any fuss, and completely porblemfree and quick. With a welcome present in our hands we move into our room and plan our tour through the old town for tonight. It feels like a great end to a very successful trip.
