Our 18 day tour A Journey Into Nature includes activities and accommodations in scenic landscapes and charming villages, located outside the big cities. This way the clients can enjoy their time exclusively in nature and the little towns, but also visit the bigger cities if they wish to.
In the following the detailed description of the tour:
During this roundtrip we immerse ourselves into the divine nature of one of the most diverse countries on earth. The tour takes us through spectacular Andean landscapes, the colonial village Honda, the surroundings of the metropolis Medellin and right in to the gorgeous coffee region. Leaving the Andean mountain ranges, we continue to the vibrant Caribbean coast, more precisely to Santa Marta and afterwards to Cartagena, which undoubtedly is one of the most fascinating cities of Latin America. To finish our journey with a grand finale, enjoy Caribbean feeling at its best at the lonely beaches on Island San Bernardo.
1. DAY: ARRIVAL IN BOGOTÁ - ZIPACON
After arrival in Bogotá we are picked up by our guide and are taken to our hotel close to the town of Zipacón, which takes us about 1 hour. Our comfortable bungalow at the hotel La Palma y el Tucan is located in the heart of nature, surrounded by coffee plantations. Depending on the time of arrival, we enjoy lunch on the hotels terrace with a breathtaking view of the colombian mountainous landscapes.
2. DAY: ZIPACON
We take it easy in the morning and have a late breakfast. This way there is enough time to fully recover from the long flight and recharge the batteries for the upcoming days. After some fresh fruit, typical arepas and the hotel´s own coffee, we get to know the finca. We wander through the pretty, green grounds (about 2 h, simple) and in the afternoon, we learn all about the cultivation of coffee.
3. DAY: ZIPACON - HONDA
Today´s drive takes us through spectacular landscapes down into the Magdalena valley all the way to Honda (about 3 h drive). It is one of the most beatiful colonial villages and awaits us with hot, almost tropical climate and plenty of surprises. We get lost in the little alleys and are told about Honda´s history, which played an important role due to its location right at the Magdalena river. Humboldt himself visited Honda and started his walk to Bogotá from the village.

4. DAY: HONDA – MEDELLÍN (SURROUNDINGS)
We continue northbound along the powerful Magdalena River. Afer about 2 h we cross the river and drive up the central Andean mountain range. Our destination: the spectacular Canua Lodge. Another 2 hours later we arrive at the lodge, located in the mountains close to the artificial lake Guatapé, only about 1 h from Medellín, and have lunch. Afterwards we hike for about 5 hours on trails that have been made by the indigenous people in the pre-colonial era.
We pass small farms that cultivate flowers, tomatoes or exotic fruits, have a little picknick at a waterfall about 60 m high and end our hike at the village Peñol. Before we are taken back to the lodge, we visit the impressive artificial lake Guatapé, and who feels like it, can climb the 220 m high monolith „piedra del peñol“ to enjoy an even better view from up above.

5. DAY: MEDELLÍN (SURROUNDINGS)
After a very eventful day yesterday, today is completely free to relax, do a little hike, a rum coffee or chocolate tasting or even visit Medellin (these activities are not included, but can be booked on demand).
6. DAY: MEDELLÍN (SURROUNDINGS) - MANIZALES
On today´s schedule is a rather long drive through the scenic mountainous landscapes to Manizales in the coffee region (about 6 h). We stop close to the town La Pintada and have a light lunch. In the afternoon we arrive at our destination: Hacienda Venecia, an authentic coffee finca with pool. Time to relax or explore the finca.

7. DAY: MANIZALES - SALENTO
In the morning we explore the grounds of the finca with its bamboo-forests, plantain and coffee plantations: nature presents itself at its best in millions of different shades of green. Bird lovers will also be delighted, as the region is known for its variety of birds (as is entire Colombia actually). We get to chose if we want to do the tour by foot, bike or horse. After a rich lunch at the hotel, we continue to Salento, about 2-3 h away, where we check in at our hotel located in the outskirts of the little town.

8. DAY: SALENTO
After breakfast we get to know the village with its colourfull houses and visit a viewing point that presents an amazing view of the central Andean mountain range. If we are lucky, we can see the snow capped peaks of Nevado de Tolimo. We walk back to the central plaza and take a typical Willy Jeep to the Cocora Valley. Here we find the national tree of Colombia, the wax palm, that grows up to 60 m. We hike through the valley according to our level - either a about 6 hour hike, or a 45 min hike. There is also the posibility to explore the valley by horse (not included).
9. DAY: SALENTO - IBAGUE
In the morning we relax at the hotel or go for a stroll through the village by ourselves, before we head towards Ibague. Today´s journey takes us across the famous mountain pass "La Linea", up to about 3.300 m above sea level and then again downhill into the Magdalena valley. Once in Ibague we make ourselves comfortable at our modern style hotel, located in the outskirts of the city. Ibague is located at the foot of the central Andean mountain range. If requested, we drive into the city center in the afternoon.
10. DAY: IBAGUE - SANTA MARTA/TAYRONA NATIONALPARK
Today we leaeve the Andes, and head to the Caribbean Coast. First we drive to Bogota (about 4 h) where we take the plane to Santa Marta. Another 45 min drive later we arrive at our astonishing lodge, right at the beach close to the famous Tayrona Nationalpark.

11. DAY: SANTA MARTA/TAYRONA NATIONALPARK
12. DAY: SANTA MARTA/TAYRONA NATIONALPARK - CARTAGENA
Today we drive for about 6 h along the coast until we reach Cartagena de Indias. Our hotel is located about 20 min from the city center, right at the beach. At night we explore the historic center of Cartagena by foot.

13. DAY: CARTAGENA
Today is at leisure - keep exploring Cartagena on your own, relax in the hammock at the hotel, go for a swim, write your journal...
14. DAY: CARTAGENA - ISLAS DE SAN BERNARDO
Transfer to the port of Cartgena and from there by speedboat to the island San Bernardo (about 2 h).
