Just outside of Cartagena, in a little fishing village we experience the thriving, lcoal culture through their music and become part of it. Local music teachers and drum makers explain the secrets of the traditional rhythms of the Caribbean coast and the instruments they use. Historically, drums have been recognized as instruments of culture, communication and resistance in Afro-American populations. These rhythms remain in Colombian culture as tools for transformation and social resistance. 
We have the opportunity to feel and observe the local culture, traditions, customs and way of life. After a short introduction, wel learn basic drum rhythms and participate in a fun drum session with locals and visitors. Usually the locals (and hopefully the visitors) start dancing to the drum beats. 

Our visit is not only to our own enterntainment, but by visiting we support a local project: the school teaches music to the children of the neighborhood to keep them out of trouble and away from child labor. This way not only do the kids benefit from the lessons, but also the local music and rhythms are passed on to the next generation and therby kept alive.
