VISIT THE COLORFUL CAÑO CRISTALES

The time has come, soon Caño Cristales will shine again in all its colorful splendor!

As every year, the Sierra de la Macarena National Park offers a unique natural spectacle that your customers should not miss: Between July and November the river Caño Cristales glistens in different colors (from light red to green), due to the aquatic plant Macarenia Clavijera that is in full colorful bloom at this time of the year. Walking along the river you can admire its crystal clear water, its waterfalls and pools. In some places you can also go for a refreshing dip in the pleasantly cool water.

For a trip to the Sierra de la Macarena we recommend at least 2 nights in La Macarena. This small town in the department of La Meta is the starting point for the excursions to the Caño Cristales, which is an about 20 minutes boat ride followed by a 2 hour hike away.

Day 1: Arrival to Macarena – visit of Caño Cristalito or Caño Piedra or Finca Llanera

Welcoming at the Macarena Airport. One representative of the agency will pick you up at the airport. Snacks/Lunch time. Meeting with your guide and visit to the National parks agency to get the recommendations for visiting the park  and check assigned sector to visit at Caño Cristales.

Departure to your first spot: 
Option 1: Visit to Caño Cristalitos or Caño Piedra. *
Option 2: visit to a farm to learn about the life in the Llanos, typical food, horseback riding*
Return to La Macarena in 4x4 and boat and transportation to hotel where you will have dinner. 

*NOTE: this day in case there is no availability for Cano Cristalitos, you will go to Cano Piedra. In case there is no availability in both of them, you will go to a typical finca (farm) llanera. This might happen during long weekends due to a public holiday or if you made your reservation at too short time in advance. 

Day 2: Full Day Tour Caño Cristales

After breakfast meeting with your guide and transportation along the Guayabero River: birds and wildlife watching. transportation in 4x4 to Caño Cristales. Arrival to Caño Cristales and hiking along Caño Cristales in assigned sector (the sector will be assigned to us by the National Park and environmental authorities). Typical Lunch during the hiking activity along the river (depending on departure time). After the end of the visit return to La Macarena in 4x4 and boat. Transportation to your hotel and dinner. 

Day 3: Caño Cristalito or Caño Piedra and departure

After breakfast meeting with your guide and visit to Caño Cristalitos or Caño Piedra to watch sunrise and hike (duration depends on departure time)* Return to La Macarena in 4x4 and boat and transportation to the airport. Farewell. 

*NOTE: In case your flight departure is before 09 am, you will go to see the sunrise at a finca (farm) nearby the village. 

Included: Bilingual local guide (Spanish-English) for the days of the tour. Accommodation in a hotel in the village, everyday transportation to the main attractions in Caño Cristales, 3 main meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) everyday, except breakfast on day 1 and lunch or dinner on final day  (it depends what time your flight leaves from La Macarena).
