DAY 11, November 28th: CARIBBEAN COAST (CARTAGENA - BARÙ)

Cartagena itself is not popular as beach destination, however, the Las Americas Beach Resort is ideal to combine beach and city when visiting the pearl of the Caribbean. Today, we continued our trip for about another 1.5 hours through Cartagena's suburbs all the way to the Baru Peninsula. On the way there we stop at Hotel Agua Azul Beach Resort around midday. Not only the delicious lunch, but also the pretty beach, makes the hotel the perfect place to spend a few days in a quiet surrounding, right at the ocean.

In the early afternoon we drove to the Hotel Las Islas, located about 20 min west. This resort with its 55 bungalows is amongst to the most luxurious accomodations at the Colombian Caribbean coast and, once again, left us mezmerized.

TAG 11, 28. November: KARIBIKKÜSTE (CARTAGENA - BARU)

Cartagena ist zwar keine Stranddestination, aber das Hotel Las Americas Beach Resort ist ideal, um beim Besuch Cartagenas, Strand und Stadt zu kombinieren. Von hier aus ging es heute in knapp 2 Stunden weiter, durch Cartagenas Vororte, zur Halbinsel Baru. Auf dem Weg dorthin legten wir einen Mittags-Stopp im Hotel Agua Azul Beach Resort. Nicht nur das leckere Mittagessen, sondern auch der schöne Strand machen das Hotel zum optimalen Ort, um einige Tage in ruhigem Ambiente direkt am Meer zu verbringen.

Am frühen Nachmittag fuhren wir weiter ins das knapp 20 Minuten weiter westlich gelegene Hotel Las Islas. Dieses Resort mit seinen 55 Bungalows gehört zu den luxuriösesten Adressen an der kolumbianischen Karibikkueste und begeistert uns immer wieder aufs Neue.

Some impressions from La Gitana del Mar this morning...

After an extensive breakfast we had to leave, although Torsten did not want to. He hung like a sloth on one of the palm trees. 

After a drive partly along the Caribbean coast via Barranquilla we reached Cartagena after about 5 hours. Cartagena is one of the most spectacular cities in Latin America, combining Caribbean lifestyle and colonial past in an extraordinary way. The Las Americas Beach Resort is our accommodation for the night. It is located directly on the beach about 10 minutes from Cartagena's old town. A perfect place to get to know the city and enjoy the beach.

TAG 10, 27. November: KARIBIKKÜSTE (TAYRONA - CARTAGENA)

Hier ein Paar Eindrücke vom Hotel Gitana del Mar und vom Strand...

Nach einem umfangreichen Frühstück mussten wir los, obwohl Torsten so gar nicht wollte. Sein versuch sich als Faultier getarnt in einer Palme zu verstecken, ging jedoch nicht ganz auf... 

Nach einer Fahrt teilweise direkt entlang der Karbikküste, vorbei an Barranquilla, erreichten wir nach knapp 5 Stunden Cartagena. Cartagena ist eine der spektakulärsten Städte Lateinamerikas, da man hier eine Kombination von karibischer Lebensfreunde und kolonialer Vergangenheit antrifft, wie sonst nirgendwo. Das Las Americas Beach Resort, direkt am Strand nur ungefähr 10 Minuten von Cartagena´s Altstadt entfernt, ist unsere Unterkunft für diese Nacht. Es ist der perfekte Ort, um die Stadt kennenzulernen, aber auch am Strand entspannen zu können.

DAY 9, November 26th: TAYRONA NATIONALPARK

Today was another great day, that started with a delicious breakfast on the terrace of La Maloka Barlovento. Its great view of the sea, the river, the waves and the surroundings was simply breathtaking. 

Afterwards we went to the Tayrona Nationalpark, whose entrance is only 5 minutes away. After having been closed for about 8 months, the park re-opened just yesterday, so today there were only few visitors, which made the experience even more special. The hike through the tropical jungle from Cañaveral, along the beaches of Arrecife and La Piscina to Cabo de San Juan took us through varied landscapes that are home to diverese wildlife - we saw monkeys, exotic birds and even a snake, which made itself comfortable on the branches onl about 2 meters from the trail.

After about 2 hours we finally arrived at Cabo de San Juan, a picture-perfect dream beach. We stopped for a swim, to refresh and recharge the batteries for the way back. 

In the early afternoon it was time to leave and from the car park in Cañaveral we headed directly to our next accommodation, only about 20 min from the entrance of the park, to the hotel Gitana del Mar. This resort is, without a doubt, one of the best in the whole area. It is located directly on the beach and has 10 attractive bungalows, a small pool, hammocks, a place for yoga and meditation - and all this under palm trees with ocean view. We were thrilled! The tropical rain shower at night, did not bother us at all, rather the contrary, it  made us sleep and dream even deeper.

TAG 9, 26. November: KARIBIKKÜSTE (TAYRONA)

Heute war ein weiterer klasse Tag. Das Frühstück auf der Terrasse der Maloka Barlovento mit Blick auf das Meer, den Fluss, die Wellen und die ganze Umgebung waren einfach ein Traum.

Danach ging´s in den Tayrona Park, dessen Eingang ja nur 5 Minuten entfernt liegt. Der Tayrona Park hatte gestern, am 25.11., die Wiedereröffnung, heute war also der zweite Tag. Dementsprechend waren noch wenige Gäste im Park, was das ganze Erlebnis noch spezieller machte. Die Wanderung durch den tropischen Urwald von Cañaveral über die Strandabschnitte Arrecife und La Piscina bis nach El Cabo de San Juan hätte nicht abwechslungsreicher sein können - wir sahen wir doch Affen, exotische Vögel und sogar eine Schlange, die es sich auf den dichten Ästen, ca. 2 Meter vom Weg entfernt, bequem machte. 

Nach ca. 2 Stunden kamen wir schliesslich am Strand El Cabo de San Juan an. Ein Traumstrand, wie man ihn sonst nur aus “Erzählungen” kennt. Hier machten wir einen kurzen Badestopp, um uns zu erfrischen und die Batterien für den Rückweg aufzuladen. 

Gegen frühen Nachmittag ging´s zurück und wir fuhren vom Parkplatz in Cañaveral direkt weiter zu unserer nächsten Unterkunft etwa 20 min entfernt vom Parkeingang, ins Hotel Gitana del Mar. Dieses Resort gehört ohne Zweifel zu den besten der ganzen Zone. Es liegt direkt am Strand und hat neben 10 attraktiven Bungalows auch einen kleinen Pool, Hängematten, ein Platz für Yoga und Meditation – und das alles unter Palmen mit Blick aufs Meer. Wir waren begeistert! Der tropische Regenschauer hat unseren Erholungsschlaf in keinster Weise beeinträchtigt, im Gegenteil,  er liess uns nur noch tiefer schlafen und träumen.

DAY 8, November 25th: BARRANCABERMEJA - SANTA MARTA/TAYRONA

The desire to arrive at the Caribbean makes us leave today at 4:40 am. After a scenic drive, passing many palm tree and banana plantations, we arrived in Santa Marta in the afternoon and shortly afterwards in our great accommodation Maloka Barlovento, which is located right next to the Tayrona Nationalpark. Here, we are sitting on the elevated deck of the hotel, overlooking the sea and the river and simply relax!

Travel time: approx. 10 hours

TAG 8, 25. November: BARRANCABERMEJA - CARIBBEAN COAST

Die Lust auf die Karibik liess uns heute schon um 04.40 Uhr aufbrechen. Nach einer schönen Fahrt vorbei an vielen Palmen- und Bananenplantagen waren wir bereits am Nachmittag in Santa Marta und kurz darauf in unserer tollen Unterkunft Maloka Barlovento, welche direkt neben dem Tayrona Nationalpark liegt. Hier sitzen wir gerade auf einer erhöhten Terrasse mit Blick aufs Meer und den Fluss und fühlen uns einfach nur gut.

Fahrzeit: ca. 10 Stunden

Fahrstrecke: ca. 580 Km

DAY 7, November 24th: COFFEE REGION -BARRANCABERMEJA

After an extensive breakfast we embarked on our journey (which will take us two days in total) to the Caribbean coast. We crossed the La Linea pass and, for the first time, drove through the new tunnel, which is with over 8 km the longest car tunnel in Latin America. It cuts the travel time between the coffee region and Bogotá by up to 2 hours. Nevertheless, due to a small landslide and other road works, it did not always go as fast as we had expected. So we arrived in Barrancabermeja at about 7:30 pm, after dark. Barranca, as everybody calls it here, is situated directly at the Magdalena river, and is known as an oil-producting area.

Travel time: approx. 12 hours

Distance: approx. 530 Km

TAG 7, 24. November: KAFFEEZONE - BARRANCABERMEJA

Nach einem ausgiebigen Frühstück begann unsere erste Tagesetappe, die uns in zwei Tagen bis an die Karibikküste bringen soll. Wir überquerten den La Linea Pass und fuhren dabei zum ersten Mal durch den neu gebauten Tunnel, welcher mit über 8 km der längste Autotunnel Lateinamerikas ist. Er verkürzt die Reisezeit von der über La Linea um bis zu 2 Stunden. Trotzdem ging es bedingt durch einen kleinen Erdrutsch und weitere Strassenarbeiten nicht immer so zügig voran wie wir uns das vogestellt hatten. Deswegen kamen wir erst gegen 19.30 Uhr, also nach Einbruch der Dunkelheit, in Barrancabermeja an. Barranca, wie es hier von allen genannt wird, liegt direkt am Magdalena-Fluss und ist bekannt als Erdölfördergebiet.

Fahrzeit: ca. 12 Stunden

Fahrstrecke: ca. 530 Km

DAY 6, November 23nd: COFFEE REGION (COCORA VALLEY - SALENTO - FILANDIA)

Is there any better way to start the day than with a tasty breakfast out in the open on the terrace, overlooking the "coffee mountains"? 

At about 08.15 we left and passed various small villages on our ride through the mountainous coffee landscape into the Cocora valley, where the National Park Los Nevados with its over 5000m high volcanic peaks, starts. We "only" stayed in the Cocora Valley and enjoyed the breathtaking landscape, though. The Cocora Valley is home to the typical wax palm, the highest palm tree in the world.

On our ride back, we stopped in the villages Salento and Filandia, which are always worth a visit. In the early afternoon we arrived at our coffee finca Bosques del Saman, just in time to fly over the coffee fields on one of the most spectacular canopies. 

Today we will go to bed a early, because we have two long driving days ahead of us: Tomorrow we want to cross the central Andes via the La Linea Pass and make it to Barrancabermeja, located on the shores of the Magdalena River, which will probably take us about 9 hours. And the day after we will drive almost as long again, al the way up to the Caribbean coast.

Please keep your fingers crossed so we don´t exceed these 9 hours...

TAG 6, 23. November: KAFFEEZONE (COCORA TAL - SALENTO - FILANDIA)

Wie kann man den Tag besser beginnen als mit einem leckeren Frühstück draussen auf der Terrasse mit Blick auf die “Kaffeeberge”? 

Gegen 08.15 Uhr fuhren wir dann los und es ging vorbei an vielen kleinen Ortschaften durch die hügelige Kaffeelandschaft bis ins Cocora-Tal. Hier beginnt der Nationalpark Los Nevados mit seinen über 5000m hohen Vulkangipfeln. Wir blieben jedoch “nur” im Cocora-Tal und genossen die atemberaubende Landschaft. Das Cocora-Tal ist die Heimat der Wachspalme, der höchsten Palmenart der Welt. 

Zurück ging es über die sehenswerten Dörfer von Salento und Filandia. Am frühen Nachmittag waren wir wieder auf unserer Kaffeefinca Bosques del Saman. Genau zur rechten Zeit, um mit einem der spektakulärsten Canopys über die Kaffeefelder zu fliegen. 

Heute geht´s sicher etwas früher ins Bett, denn es stehen zwei lange Fahrtage auf dem Programm: Morgen wollen wir ueber den La Linea Pass die mittelere Andenkette überqueren und es bis Barrancabermeja schaffen, das direkt am Magdalena-Fluss liegt. Wir planen mit ca. 9 Stunden Fahrt. Und am Tag darauf geht es dann nochmals fast genauso lang, bis an die Karibikküste.

Day 5, November 22nd: COFFEE REGION (MANIZALES - PEREIRA)

We started our day with a rich breakfast at Hacienda Venecia - with freshly squeezed orange juice, original coffee, bread, eggs, arepa and fruits. Afterwards Juan Pablo, the owner of the finca, guided us through his "empire". 

Not only quality coffee is cultivated here, but also cocoa and plantains and everything is explained in detail during the tour. From here we continued our trip for about one hour on the "Autopista del Café" - the "coffee highway" - to Pereira, the capital of the department Riseralda. Here, our partner in the coffee region, Juan Martin, was already expecting us for lunch. He has built a drive-in cinema during the pandemic, but fortunately his passion is tourism. After an extensive chat with our friend, we continued our trip. On the way we had to change a tyre, which is done within no more than 15 minutes by a professional mechanic at the gas station. 

Shortly before nightfall, we finally reached our next coffee finca, Bosques del Saman. Martha, the owner, was already waiting for us joyfully. We have been excellent business partners with her for many years. The hacienda Bosques del Saman is one of the most holisitc coffee fincas in the area. Besides their own coffee cultivation, it has a pool, a jacuzzi, a bamboo forest and the probably longest canopy of Colombia. The flight over the coffee and banana plantations is amazing, however, we had to postpone it until the next day because of a heavy tropical rain shower.

TAG 5, 22. November: KAFFEEZONE (MANIZALES - PEREIRA)

Zunächst gab´s ein reichhaltiges Frühstück auf der Hacienda Venecia mit frischgepresstem Orangensaft, Originalkaffee, Brot, Ei, Arepa und Früchten. Im Anschluss führte uns Juan Pablo, der Besitzer der Finca, durch sein “Reich”. 

Es wird hier nicht nur Qualitätskaffee angebaut, sondern auch Kakao und Bananen und alles wird bei einer Führung detailliert erklärt. Von hier ging´s weiter über die “Autopista del Café” – der “Kaffeeautobahn" -  in einer guten Stunde nach Pereira, der Hauptstadt des Departments Riseralda. Hier hat uns unser Partner in der Kaffeezone, Juan Martin, schon zum gemeinsamen Mittagessen erwartet. Er hat während der Pandemie ein Autokino aufgebaut, seine Leidenschaft gilt jedoch glücklicherweise dem Tourismus. Nach einem ausgiebigen Austausch mit unserem Freund fuhren wir weiter. Unterwegs mussten wir noch einen Reifen wechseln, was bei Vollprofis in nur 15 Minuten gemacht ist.

Kurz vor Einbruch der Dunkelheit erreichten wir schliesslich unsere nächste Kaffeefinca, Bosques del Saman. Martha, die Inhaberin, hat uns schon freudig erwartet. Wir pflegen mit ihr schon seit vielen Jahren hervorragende Geschäftsbeziehungen. Die Hacienda Bosques del Saman gehört zu den ganzheitlichsten Kaffeefincas der Zone. Neben dem eigenen Kaffeeanbau gehören auch ein Pool, ein Jacuzzi, ein Bambuswald und das wohl längste Canopy Kolumbiens dazu. Der Flug über die Kaffee- und Bananenplantagen ist einfach klasse. Wir mussten ihn jedoch auf den nächsten Tag verschieben, weil ein kräftiger tropischer Regenschauer dazwischen kam.

Day 4, November 21st: FROM MEDELLÍN TO THE COFFEE REGION

Before continuing to the coffee region, we took a tour through Medellín. Is there any better way to explore the city of eternal spring than by Metro? Even on this public transportation, we felt extremel bio-secure. Everybody wears facemasks and there is plenty of signs stating that the air on the trains is constantly filtered. It was a little crowded, however, we did not feel uncomfortable at any moment. See for yourself...

Normally, it takes about 5-6 hours to get from Medellin to Manizales, but today it took us 8 hours...Just outside Medellin there was the first roadblock. The Vuelta a Colombia (one of the most important bicycle races in South America) was passing through this very day, so we had to take a detour via Fredonia. However, not a problem at all, as this route is also extremely beautiful. Shortly after Fredonia we faced our next involuntary stop - in the early morning, a power pole had fallen onto the road and was completely blocking it. How long would it take to get passed? The answers varied a lot...A bus driver told us it would take 30 minutes whereas the traffic police said at least 4 hours. So, what to do? We decided to take another detour on a small Andean road via Venecia and Bolombolo, which turned out to be quite tough one. It took us along partly unpaved roads, but the mezmerizing villages that we passed through and the breathtaking landscapes made up for it.
Our lesson learned: with a bit of patience even such unplanned detours can turn into unique, authentic and entirely positive experiences!

Back on the main route, we drove parallel to the Cauca river for about 2 hours until we arrived at our coffee finca Hacienda Venecia in the early evening. And we highly deserved that delicious dinner and a cool beer ;)

TAG 4, 21. November: MEDELLÌN - MANIZALES (KAFFEEZONE)

Bevor wir unsere Reise in Richtung Kaffeezone fortsetzten, haben wir noch eine Runde durch Medellín gedreht. Dafür eignet sich in der Stadt des ewigen Frühlings am besten die Metro, eine Art Straßenbahn. Auch hier fühlten wir uns sicher, alle Passagiere tragen Gesichtsmasken und auf diversen Hinweisschildern wird versichert, dass die Luft in den Zügen gefiltert wird. Es war etwas voll, aber nichtsdestotrotz fühlten wir uns in keinem Moment unwohl. Macht euch selbst euer Bild...

An einem normalen Tag ist die Strecke zwischen Medellin und Manizales in ca. 5-6 Stunden zu schaffen. Wir haben 8 Stunden gebraucht, denn gerade als wir aus Medellin heraus waren, gab es schon die erste Strassensperre aufgrund einer Etappe der Vuelta a Colombia (eines der wichtigsten Radrennens Südamerikas) zwischen Manizales und Medellin. Wir mussten also einen Umweg über Fredonia nehmen, was jedoch absolut kein Problem war, denn auch diese Strecke ist wunderschön! Kurz nach Fredonia gab es den nächsten unfreiwilligen Stopp - Ein Strommast, der wohl bereits im Morgengrauen gefallen war, blockierte das Weiterkommen. Wie lange würde das wohl dauern...? Die Antworten waren recht ungenau, ein Busfahrer meinte in 30 Minuten dürfte es weitergehen, die Verkehrspolizistin sprach von mindestens 4 Stunden. Was tun? Wir entschieden uns für einen weiteren Umweg auf einer kleinen Andenpiste über Venecia und Bolombolo. Und die hatte es in sich, denn es ging teilweise über unbefestigte Strassen. Dafür waren aber die kleinen Dörfchen, die wir unterwegs durchquerten, bezaubernd und die Landschaft atemberaubend schön. Wenn man etwas flexibel und geduldig ist, verwandeln sich also selbst solche ungeplanten Umwege in eine einmalige, authentische und durch und durch positive Erfahrung, wie ihr seht!

Als wir schliesslich wieder auf der geplanten Route waren, ging es für gut 2 Stunden parallel zum Cauca-Fluss, und am frühen Abend kamen wir in unserer Kaffeefinca Hacienda Venecia an. Das tolle Abendessen und ein kühles Bier hatten wir uns heute redlich verdient ;)

NEPTUNO ON TOUR - Day 3: In Colombia it is very easy to abide the "social distancing"...hike to Guatape and drive to Medellín

Day 3, November 20th: MARINILA - MEDELLÍN

We got up early today. It was still a quite fresh on the terrace, but after the first sunrays penetrated the thick carpet of clouds, it was very pleasant. At the Cannua Lodge, the breakfast is very well organized - we felt compeltely bio-safe just like in the previous hotels.

At 9 am we started our hike with Nestor, our guide from the region. Nestor is an iltratrail runner, so accordingly, the start was quite fast. Just behind the hotel we went uphill for about 200m through dense tropical Andes forest, then on partly dirt roads and again dense forest on sometomes slippery sections up and down. The delicious picnic right next to a hidden waterfall was a hit. 

After about 3 hours and 12km we reached the small village El Peñol, where we were picked up and brought back to the Cannua Lodge.

We got right into our car and drove about 1 hour to Medellin, where we are sitting at this very moment in the gorgeous garden of the hotel Patio del Mundo. A wonderful city hotel which, with its spectacular gardens, is a green oasis just a few minutes walk from the best restaurants and bars in the neighbourhood of El Poblado.

TAG 3, 20. November: MARINILLA - MEDELLÍN

Heute sind wir früh aufgestanden. Es war noch etwas frisch auf der Terrasse, aber nachdem die ersten Sonnenstrahlen den dicken Wolkenteppich durchdrungen hatten, war es angenehm. Das Frühstück in der Cannúa Lodge war super organisiert - wie schon in den vorherigen Hotels, haben wir uns auch hier total infektions-sicher gefühlt.

Um 09.00 Uhr ging es dann los. Unsere Wanderung mit Nestor, unserem Guide aus der Region. Nestor ist ein Ultratrail-Laeufer, dementsprechend forsch war auch der Start. Hinter dem Hotel ging es gleich mal 200m hoch auf den Berg, durch dichten tropischen Andenwelt, dann auf ein paar Schotterwegen und wieder dichtem Wald auf teils rutschigen Abschnitten hoch und runter. Das leckere Picknick, welches wir uns richtig verdient hatten, fand direkt an einem versteckten Wasserfall statt und war ein absoluter Hit.

Nach gut 3 Stunden und 12km erreichten wir dann das kleine Dörfchen El Peñol, wo uns ein Fahrer abgeholt und zurück zur Cannua Lodge gebracht hat. Von dort ging´s dann in unserem Auto gleich weiter in das gut 1 Stunde entfernte Medellin, wo wir gerade gemütlich im Garten des Hotels Patio del Mundo sitzen. Ein wunderbares Stadthotel, welches mit seinen spektakulären grünen Gärten eine Oase nur wenige Gehminuten der besten Restaurants und Bars im Stadtteil El Poblado liegt.

Bleibt dran es wird nicht langweilig...

Day 2: November 19th: HONDA - SURROUNDINGS OF MEDELLÍN (CANNÙA LODGE)

today Nadja and Luis Enrique showed us their Honda. A real insider tip! The small town is located on the shore of the Magdalena river, which is only one of the main attractions of the town. The great Magdalena Museum, the many small colonial alleys plus Luis Enrique's great stories about the people of the city - simply a great experience! 

Then in about 5 very entertaining hours we went through the Magdalena Valley up to the central Andean range through lush green mountainous landscapes. Now and then we had to pass some trucks and Stephan was driving today. Torsten was the co-piloting and also always highly concentrated, even during his lunch, which he had on board today. Finally we arrived at the Cannua Lodge, about 1 hour before Medellin, at 2200m above sea level. An amazing place, immersed in pure nature, with great views.

"We are 100% sustainable", that's how the managing director welcomed us and it's true - even the constructino materials are completely sustainable. Find out more details for yourself during your next stay 😊. At 8 pm we already went to bed, because tomorrow we have a long hike on the our agenda.

TAG 2, 19. November: HONDA - UMGEBUNG MEDELLÌNS (CANNÙA LODGE)

Heute haben uns Nadja und Luis Enrique ihr Honda gezeigt. Ein echter Geheimtipp! Das kleine Städtchen liegt ja direkt am Magdalena-Fluss, der das Treiben der Stadt bestimmt. Das tolle Magdalena-Museum, die vielen kleinen kolonialen Gässchen, dazu Luis Enriques tolle Erzählungen über die Menschen der Stadt – einfach klasse. 

Dann ging es in knapp 5 sehr kurzweiligen Stunden durch das Magdalena-Tal und hinauf auf die mittlere Andenkette durch die typischen grünen Andenlandschaften. Hier und da musste ein LKW überholt werden. Stephan war heute am Steuer, Torsten der Copilot – ebenfalls immer hochkonzentriert, auch während seines Mittagessens, welches beim Fahren eingenommen wurde. 

Schliesslich kamen wir in der Cannua Lodge an, ca. 1 Stunde vor Medellin, auf 2200m Höhe. Ein beeindruckender Ort, in freier Natur, mit toller Sicht. "Wir sind zu 100% nachhaltig", so hat uns der Geschäftsführer begrüsst und es stimmt, selbst bei der Bauweise und mit dem Baumaterial wurden keine Abstriche gemacht. Weitere Details dazu erfahrt ihr dann selbst, bei eurem nächsten Besuch in der Cannua Lodge 😊. Um 20.00 Uhr ging´s auch schon ab ins Bett, denn morgen steht eine lange Wanderung auf dem Programm.

Stephan hat sich als Kofferträger in der Lodge versucht...was denkt ihr, sollten sie ihn einstellen?

Day 1, November 18th: BOGOTÀ - ZIPACÒN - HONDA

Today (Wednesday) in the morning we started at about 09.15 am. The weather was quite cloudy, but we knew that once we leave Bogotá, things would change. In our case it was even lower hanging clouds and rain, but we will get to that in a moment. We drove Calle 80, also called Autopista Medellin, out of Bogotá and then on Carrera 13 past Facatativa, past the Eastern Andes mountainchain to Zipacón, to the hotel La Palma y el Tucan. An ideal place in a wonderful green mountainous landscape, in pure nature - and this only about 1.5 hours away from the airport of Bogotá.

With even more rain we continued down into the Magdalena valley, through partly adventurous dirt roads, until we finally reached Honda at nightfall. Honda lies directly on the most important and longest river of the country, the Rio Magdalena and is an ideal stopover between Bogota and the coffee zone or Bogota and Medellin. We stay at our friends' Luis Enrique and Nadja, at their great colonial boutique hotel Belle Epoque.

It was a great first day, which we finished in the evening with dinner together.

Conclusion: The hotel La Palma y el Tucan is perfect for guests who do not want to stay in Bogota. And Honda with its charming colonial centre, warm weather and great location on the river is always worth a stop.

The health and hygiene regulations were perfectly and calmly implemented by the hotels and restaurants we visited. All this makes us want more.

Tag 1, 18. November: BOGOTÀ - ZIPACÒN - HONDA

Heute (Mittwoch) morgen ging´s gegen 09.15 Uhr los. Das Wetter war recht bewölkt, aber wir wussten, einmal raus aus Bogotá, ändert sich das. In unserem Fall waren das noch mehr tiefliegende Wolken und dann auch noch Regen, aber dazu gleich mehr. Wir fuhren die Calle 80, auch Autopista Medellín genannt aus Bogotá heraus und dann über die Cra. 13 vorbei an Facatativa vorbei die Ostandenkette hinter bis zum Hotel La Palma y el Tucan. Ein idealer Platz in wunderbarer üppiger, grüner Berghügellandschaft gelegen, in der absolut freien Natur – und das nur ca. 1.5 Stunden vom Flughafen in Bogotá entfernt.

Bei noch mehr Regen ging´s dann weiter hinunter ins Magdalena-Tal, durch teilweise abenteuerliche Schlammpisten, bis wir schliesslich bei Einbruch der Dunkelheit Honda erreicht haben. Honda liegt direkt am wichtigsten und längsten Fluss des Landes, dem Rio Magdalena und ist ein idealer Zwischenstopp zwischen Bogota und der Kaffeezone bzw. Bogota und Medellin. Bei unseren Freunden Luis Enrique und Nadja übernachten wir in ihrem tollen kolonialen Boutique Hotel Belle Epoque.

Es war ein toller erster Tag, den wir abends beim gemeinsamen Abendessen ausklingen liessen.

Fazit: Das Hotel La Palma y el Tucan ist perfekt für Gäste, die nicht in Bogota bleiben möchten. Und Honda mit seinem charmanten kolonialen Kern, tollem Klima und super Lage am Fluss immer ein Stopp wert.

Die Gesundheits- und Hygienevorschriften wurden von den besuchten Hotels und Restaurants perfekt und unaufgeregt umgesetzt. Das alles macht Lust auf mehr.
