For the next couple of days, we (Stephan and Torsten) are on the road, visiting different spots in Colombia to gather first hand information about the current travel situation in times of the Corona pandemia.
We started our day with a rich breakfast at Hacienda Venecia - with freshly squeezed orange juice, original coffee, bread, eggs, arepa and fruits. Afterwards Juan Pablo, the owner of the finca, guided us through his "empire".
Not only quality coffee is cultivated here, but also cocoa and plantains and everything is explained in detail during the tour. From here we continued our trip for about one hour on the "Autopista del Café" - the "coffee highway" - to Pereira, the capital of the department Riseralda. Here, our partner in the coffee region, Juan Martin, was already expecting us for lunch. He has built a drive-in cinema during the pandemic, but fortunately his passion is tourism. After an extensive chat with our friend, we continued our trip. On the way we had to change a tyre, which is done within no more than 15 minutes by a professional mechanic at the gas station.
Shortly before nightfall, we finally reached our next coffee finca, Bosques del Saman. Martha, the owner, was already waiting for us joyfully. We have been excellent business partners with her for many years. The hacienda Bosques del Saman is one of the most holisitc coffee fincas in the area. Besides their own coffee cultivation, it has a pool, a jacuzzi, a bamboo forest and the probably longest canopy of Colombia. The flight over the coffee and banana plantations is amazing, however, we had to postpone it until the next day because of a heavy tropical rain shower.
