OFF THE BEATEN TRACK IN THE COFFEE REGION

Colombia's coffee region is so much more than only its most famous highlights like Salento or the Cocora Valley. If you want your clients to explore the region a bit off the beaten track, we have the following ideas for you:

Cacao tour on a family run finca
...on a finca near Armenia we visit the plantation of different native and non-native varieties of cocoa. The owner of the Hacienda shares his profound knowledge of the cultivation, history and culture of cacao. During the tour through we taste various cacao fruits, an see how the grafts for no new seedlings are made. Finally we arrive at the main house where we experience the fermentation-, drying- and artisanal grinding-process. After tasting a delicious, selfmade hot chocolate, we return to our accommodation or continue to our next activity.

La Carbonera
...a beautiful landscape in the central mountain range of the Andes of Colombia, 23 kilometres from the village of Salento in Quindío on the road to Toche. It’s a reserve of the Colombian national tree, the wax palm, which can be admired here by the thousands. This spectacular mountain landscape is home to endemic birds as well as various mammals and can only be reached by dirt roads, which is why it offers a unique natural landscape far away from mass tourism.

Culture up close - Visit of typical villages
...in the traditional vehicles of this region, the Willy-Jeeps or Chivas, we explore charming, typical coffee villages of the departmento of Quindío: we visit Génova, Pijao, Córdoba and Rio Verde. We stop in each of the villages to have a look around and learn about the local culture. A typical lunch and a coffee tasting are an integral part of the tour.

The mountain village of Salamina
...considered a historical and cultural heritage of Colombia and lies 2 hours north of the city of Manizales in the department of Caldas. This colonial village is an oasis of architecture, history and culture and offers a spectacular landscape of gorges and mountains in different shades of green, a very pleasant climate and charming people who are happy to welcome tourists.
