We always want to keep you informed about the
major current events in Colombia.
Last week, many Colombians followed the evening
news on television: The President of Colombia Juan Manuel Santos had travelled
to Cuba to meet the chief negotiators of the Farc EP Guerilla delegation.
As you know since the end of the year 2012 the
Colombian government and the FARC are negotiating for peace. Since then, they
have reached an agreement on three of the most important topics (rural
development, rebel participation in politics and policies for combating drug
trafficking) . Yesterday, the two parties finally reached also a preliminary
agreement on transitional justice measures related to the conflict as well as
reparation for victims.
Under these circumstances, the end of the only remaining
American civil war could be close. The president and the guerrillas set a
six-month deadline to sign a final agreement and the guerrillas agreed to begin
handing over their weapons 60 days after a deal is signed.
