Yellow Fever vaccination for Colombia

The Colombian Ministry of Health has published in march a new a yellow fever warning.  In general a yellow fever vaccination is recommended for Colombia Trips to areas below 2.300m (7500ft). Touristic areas of high risk according to the Ministry of Health are:


  • The Amazon (Leticia and surroundings)
  • Santa Marta und surroundings (Santa Marta, Minca, Tayrona National Park, Palomino, Lost City)
  • Choco (Nuquí and Bahía Solano)
  • La Macarena (Caño Cristales)
  • La Guajira
  • Yopal (Hato La Aurora)
A yellow fever vaccination is required and might be checked by the airlines during the check in procedure when flying to Nuquí, La Macarena and Leticia. It is important to note that the validity begins officially 10 days after the vaccination. For travellers above the age of 60 years a yellow fever vaccination is not required.
