Since september there have been reported several cases of Chikungunya Virus especially at the northern coast of Colombia. Chikungunya is a viral disease that is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes during daylight hours. There is currently no vaccine or treatment for the mosquito-borne virus. Doctors recommend taking the same precautions used to avoid mosquito bites:
- wear light-colored, long sleeved shirts, long pants, hats and socks
- Use insect repellent
- Use mosquito net where needed.
Our guides anyway will advise the clients about these recommendations where it is important. The virus is usually benign and does not leave permanent damages.
For further questions clients should ask their doctor.
