Our new colleague Lena spent some time in Nuqui at the Pacific coast and shares with us some of her experiences.
On my last surftrip I ended up in Termales,
a little village at the pacific coast of Chocó, where amongst waves I found an
impressive landscape, welcoming people, good food and an endless variety of
activities - from surfing, birdwatching, hikes through the forest, swimming in
rivers, waterfalls and the ocean, diving, fishing and cooking with talented
locals, to relaxing in a hammock while listening to a unique live concert by
the sounds of the ocean and forest.
Although only a stone´s throw away from
Medellin, (in total about 2 hours) it feels like entering a different world,
far away from pollution, traffic and the hustle of the city.
Besides the incredible landscape, it is the
local surf community and their surf club that left a great impression on me.
Initially support from the outside, by now the locals try to organize
themselves, i.e. teach the kids of Termales and the surrounding villages to
surf, raise funds for material and entry fees for national tournaments. Their
motivation, enthusiasm and harmony with nature reflects the common local
mentality that tourist will encounter here. Watch this video.
To all true nature-, tranquility-, action-,
birdlovers, etc: be enchanted by the beauty of the pacific coast, its local
community and culture while staying in one of the comfortable, authentic lodges
like El Cantil
oder La Kuka!
