Whale watching at Colombias Pacific coast

The Pacific Coast of Colombia is one of the most humid regions on the planet, with near a yearly rainfall above 10,000 cm3; the rainforest possesses a great biodiversity, flora and fauna like no other. Every year from July to October, the humpback whales arrive to these coasts after an 8,000 km (5000 miles) journey from the Antarctic; the warm water offers a better environment to mate and to give birth to baby whales. The period of pregnancy is 12 months and the humpback whales will have a baby every two years. These whales are the most playful and acrobatic of this species. An adult whale can reach a maximum of 18 meters long and can live for even 50 years. A new born humpback whale weighs 1,5 tons and are 4,5 meters long.
Colombian and foreign tourists flock to the region to observe this species and to enjoy the beautiful symphonies played by the whales with their sounds.
