Because of the
heavy drought in large areas of Colombia the the touristic site “Lagoon of
Guatavita” was closed for almost 2 months. The reopening was taking place on
01st of April 2016.
According to the legend of El Dorado, at the
lagoon took place the ceremony to appoint the new Muisca Chief (The Muisca are
the native inhabitants of Bogota parts of Cundinamarca and Boyaca). It is said
that the new Muisca chief was covered in gold dust and then sailed to the
centre of the lake in a wooden raft from which he would subsequently jumped
into the water.
