Tejo Attention please, it´s going to be explosive

It belongs to the national sport activity in Colombia. It requires great ability and concentration. In addition you mix it with the Colombian way of life, sociality and vitality. In the end you get Tejo, one of the most popular game in Colombia.  In this game you have to throw a discus-shaped disk into a circle called Bocín, which is around 20 meters away from you. On the edges of the circle there are triangular black powder bags, the so called Mechas. The goal is to hit these Mechas with your Tejo, so that the black powder will explode. If you hit the Mecha, you win. If nobody hit the Mecha, it´s all about the Tejo which is closest to the circle.

The game is the offspring of an old South American game with the name Turmequé. 500 years ago the natives used to play the game with 1.5 pound heavy gold-plates. During the centuries the natives used stone-plates and later metal-plates. While playing, the people drank Chicha, a traditional drink with fermented corn. Still today Colombians love playing the game and enjoying beer or Aguardiente. Tejo is part of the everyday-life in Colombia, so as Domino on Cuba or the bowl game Boule in France. People like to meet, play and talk about ordinary things, about life and god.

You can play Tejo in most regions of Colombia. For example next to Bogotá, on the way to Villa de Leyva, in Salento, next to San Agustin, etc.
