Tourism can also have negative effects, especially in developing
countries such as Colombia. We are aware of this, therefore it is our most
important concern to take responsibility with the environmental and social
sustainability and to give priority to the "responsible and sustainable
tourism" in our trips. To make our contribution, we are currently being
certified in "sustainable Tourism".
What does that mean?
-
Our suppliers (drivers, guides, hotels,
restaurants, etc.) are selected not only because of their good price and performance, but especially because they always act environmentally friendly,
and they are certified or in process of being certified in responsible and
sustainable tourism.
-
Meals should be taken if possible in
restaurants (or hotels) that offer local products or food from the region. With
this we reduce the "leakage effects" (money stays in the region) and
avoid unnecessary transportation.
-
Guides, drivers and hotel employees are
with very few exceptions, always from the region where the service is provided.
The cultural characteristics of each region of the country are diverse, and
must be respected and highlighted in any activity.
-
The population should be as far as
possible involved during the implementation of the trip. The aim must be to get
to know the reality of the country, to create the conditions that the
environment and the nature can be protected and to increase the economic
prosperity of the locals.
-
Water and energy consumption: Please
use responsibly the energy and water resources, specially in the arid regions
of Colombia, such as Santa Marta and the surrounding areas, Guajira, San Andres
/ Providencia and Tatacoa Desert. A high water consumption has a negative
impact on the local population as well as on the flora and fauna, particularly
with the use of air conditioning, bathroom / shower and TV.
-
Waste Disposal: Waste disposal is a
major problem in Colombia. Waste management is usually not well and
consistently performed by locals. In our office we separate our waste and
follow the “3R“ rule: 1.Reduce; 2.Reuse; 3.Recycle. Please help us to produce
few waste and always throw the garbage in bins.
-
According to the Colombian law (Ley 17
de 1981 Ley 36 1937, Ley 163 1959 Ley 63 1986, Ley 397 1997) the trade of
animals, plants and "cultural heritage" is not allowed. Therefore,
you must not take animals, plants or cultural objects from any region. If you
have any questions, please contact your Guide or contact us.
-
According to Colombian law (Ley 676 del
17, 2001, 1329 y 1336 en 2009) the commercial sexual exploitation of children
and youth is not allowed. We distance ourselves from all the practices of
sexual and economic exploitations.
Sustainable and Responsible Tourism is our obligation and an opportunity. We are quite sure your trip is enriched by the above guidelines of authentic experiences and great moments.
