Sustainability at Promotora Neptuno

Nowadays, the concept of sustainability is being talked of everywhere. ‘We have to enforce sustainability – we have to shape our companies in a more sustainable way to make them fit for the future.’ The term has become used excessively for quite some time now. Since March of 2014, our travel agency Promotora Neptuno has also entered the sustainability process and aims to be certified this year. What does that mean for us? What does it mean for our clients and  businesses travel in Europe and all over the world?

Promotora Neptuno wants to contribute to increase sustainability – both within the company as well as worldwide. We want to achieve concrete and measurable results;, for example, by minimal water and energy consumption with a reduced amount of waste. We have started to raise the awareness of our Columbian employees, our guides, and our providers in topics such as sustainability and social responsibility. In this context, a wide array of aspects has been discussed:

  • Resource conservation
  • Problems of sexual and economic exploitation of children and adolescents
  • Discrimination in the process of recruiting new employees in regards to their ethnicity, religious or sexual orientation, or physical or mental handicaps
  • Protection of Columbia’s cultural and natural heritage

Furthermore, Promotora Neptuno would like to pay closer attention that new and already established touristic products support local communities as much as possible. In addition to that, the purchasing department of Neptuno is going to be restructured, so that regional and ecological products are increasingly considered for use.
All these and many more topics are currently being addressed by the Promotora Neptuno Team and have come to realization that the complex issue of sustainability offers an implementation of projects in many practical ways. Therefore, we would like to exchange ideas with you about possible and actual successes, as well as any difficulties which you encountered in your process of sustainability.
